Exactly.

They should do a nice friendly protest that everyone can get behind, like all the successful protests of the past.
You really think this one will be a success?
I’m not an expert on these things.

What do you think they should do?

Well what’s your point then? Aside from a few people have been put out for a few hours?

Time will tell if they get what they want, I suspect they will eventually. But either way that statement is absurd! Would you say it doesn’t matter that the civil rights movements through history were right because there’s still racial inequality?

Things can look very black & white. But the truth is far, far more complicated. If the UK went alone and engaged all the necessary measures, what about the rest of the World & their band of dictators? Biden's mob is far more polluting, I bet Xi is quaking in his boots when these geezers glue themselves to the M25 . As for Vlad, he probably thinks a few grams of Novichok on dissident countries will fix it. Really, people need to get wise to the complexity of the problem. We urgently need more gas now, so how we gonna get along on no Carbon emissions? As for all electric cars, what a joke, there is not enough infrastructure in the UK

Its not just a few people put out, many of them will be travelling to do important things.

Its not about what is the priority, we cant stop the country (although we stopped it for covid i admit) for this because its not fair and its not the way out of this. It'll be through technology and winning people over to change their habits.

They've got plenty of attention, but i dont think they'll have won many over.

I dont know enough about the civil rights movement to comment. Does it change anything if you're right? Just bragging rights.

We should insulate, there used to be schemes (probably when we last had a labour govt), it would save energy and CO2, create jobs etc.

Theres probably a shortage of insulation at the moment anyway.

Personally I have a wood burning stove so i'll fire that up if theres no gas.

Yes you are. Our electricity mix has already been switched away from coal to wind and solar, so what would you call that?

Burning gas (a fossil fuel) generates 42% of the UK's energy.

I've seen the pictures on the BEEB today, with their plasticised signs and petro-chemical solutions and I can't help thinking that these people must be running out of holiday entitlement with the number of days they have taken off work.

Not just in the U.K. i totally agree. And it does need to be 0% and it is moving in the right direction. But the U.K. achieving 0% won’t make a massive difference as other countries fail to go in the same direction.

I look forward to all these protest groups going over to China and creating disruption. Of course they won’t, they don’t have the balls. And if they did, they wouldn’t have their balls very long. They would just disappear from sight.

This is not a U.K. fight, it is a global fight.

Luckily these protestors can't get out of bed early enough to disrupt my journey to work. I also exit the M25 at the M11, which is very difficult to block. Otherwise I could be tempted....

On a more serious note, I can't help feeling that these actions might be gaining attention for the cause, but it won't be attracting more sympathisers and they will be losing supporters that were sympathetic.

I love these protests, even though I've been caught up in them a couple of times.
It's only protest after protest, that gets anything done in this country.
I love it when it pisses off the right wingers too, so it's win win for me

Perhaps we should all stop breathing as that must be polluting the air as well?

:D

Although, I think calling this 'difficult' is a bit of an understatement. Any meaningful success is going to require a high degree of international cooperation. I think that is becoming less likely by the day.
