Millwall away when Laurie C did the fist slaute with Bobby Fisher didnt see the Goal as i wasnt tall enough , I only saw a glimpse of.them doing what they did , but as me & my dad were surrounded by Millwall Bigots i saw how angry they were & laughed my 9 or 10 year odd head off all the same

I have read about the game at Millwall where Laurie Cunningham and Bobby Fisher enraged the Millwall fans by raising their fist at them. I'm very interested to hear more about what happened. As a new member I can't PM you, tuffers, but I am curious to know when this happened and anything you (or anyone else who was there) can remember about it. Thanks.

I actually think the goal didnt end up counting .
Pretty sure it was a 0-0 draw in 75 & the ref blew his whistle before laurie had the shot.

Although it could have been the equaliser in the 1-1 draw ,

Unfortunately the memory has faded a bit now as i saw a lot of heads on the terraces &
not so much of the action on the pitch.

We went 2 seasons on the bounce & theyve sort
of mulched into 1 Jumbled match.

I remember a cheer from some O's fans
then lots of anger from millwall..
I asked my dad why they were screaming .
He told me ill tell you on the way home in the car

It definitely wasn't 77 as the old boy packed up
driving as a new years resolution after a heart attack in 76.

Also laurie left us march 77 & we beat them 1-0 that year in april i think.

The fans sang 30 minutes before the game, all through the game , and all the way home

Mine as well. Certainly in the last 20 plus years. Sure, Oxford was great but going up to league one is still a bit blah. Championship is a whole different level and that day at Peterborough, I really thought that finally, after so long. We were going to do it. We played unbelievable as well. Literally like watching Brazil at some points.

Fulham at home during 69/70 Third Division championship season. Monday night game, we won 3-1, crowd was nearly 19,000. This was a big win and we looked as if we could actually win something that season. There were lots of great games that season, Barnsley was another, pitch was like a bog, snow, sand, water, anything other than grass.

I probably did 8-10 away games per season in the 1990's and saw so little success I questioned my sanity many times. At one point I believe we had something like 4 points from a possible 123!

Cheltenham at home this season, because when the Os went down with Beelzebub still lurking I thought it be a long time coming.

Other than that the one I enjoyed most was last game of the season, May 1983, beating Sheffield United to avoid dropping into division 4 and the subsequent pitch invasion. Had to wait for result of Reading v Wrexham to confirm safety. 4-1 to The Orient.

Loved the Peterborough game especially as I worked in Peterborough and going into the office on the Monday was a delight.not my favourite tho still thinking about it

In our nearly promotion season 73/74 away at Notts County
Winning 3-0 after about twenty minutes, Bullock, Fairbrother and Queen were on fire.
Gerry went off injured and I really believe that was when things started to go wrong.
Ended up winning 4-2, the first half hour was possibly the best I have ever seen from an O's side

The non goal was either end of 1st half
Or end of 2nd as we were in the Home section opposite the
tunnel, so side of the pitch as 8 remember seeing the players running down the tunnell.

The reason we were in the home end was the other game
the few O's fans got slightly attacked , drinks & stuff thrown.

So i assume the old man thought
Better to be a fox hiding among the hounds
Instead of alone in an open field .

I know we didnt win or lose .
So it could only be the 1-1 in 74 or the
0-0 whatever year that was.

Indeed, AW, we were awesome that afternoon. Love watching it on YouTube. Interestingly, our 2nd and 3rd were almost identical... PU defence clearly didn’t learn. One of those games where every move forward and you thought ‘Yep, here comes another.’

Both our performances against them that season were truly superb. The terrace rush when we equalised at London Road was unparalleled in my Orient-supporting career.

Your responses have been very helpful, tuffers. I probably should have explained why I'm so interested. We are just putting the finishing touches to 'Football's Black Pioneers', a book celebrating the first black (or mixed heritage) player at each of the Football League clubs. I was trying to understand a story Bobby Fisher has told about the Millwall game where a knife was thrown. Some bits of the story didn't make sense, in particular, the record books show that Laurie Cunningham never scored a goal against Millwall and yet Bobby's story said that he did. Your recollection of a goal scored but disallowed has helped to make sense of something that didn't make sense at all.

I don't suppose you remember if Millwall's ground had high fences when you went? Bobby's story mentions fences but they weren't generally introduced until about 1978/79.
