Far better performance today.......our back four, the same players that faced Exeter, looked far more solid today, especially Akinola and Turley.
The only slight negative for me was again the lack of chances we created for DJ who was rarely in the game, but overall the players looked far more committed and I’m very happy for Jobi.
Strangely I thought Newport looked like a team managed by Ross Embleton as their build up was very slow and they seemed happy just to retain possession between their back four and passed it back at the slightest sign of danger.

I think we did to them what many teams have done to us in E10, ie staying very solid, being hard to break down and nicking a goal with one of our few chances.

The back line were superb today. Yes we grafted in midfield but they still had all the ball and, in the main, dictated play. Their 10 and to a lesser extent the 8 were just too good for us. But despite that, I can only recall a handful of chances where we were troubled, the driven free kick that was headed onto the post and a shot from the left that flashed across the goalmouth.

Kemp is going to be great for us. You can see him getting better game by game, especially now he’s realised it’s a contact game.

8s for the back four and Kemp

7s for most of the midfield, just for their energy, and Vigaro

6 for DJ who had nothing to work with and Clay - who was given a master class in what a CM should look like today.

The position we were in, it was well worth the gamble of putting Jobi in charge with Danny as his number 2.
Jobi is a likable guy, has charisma, is respected by the Club, players and fans alike. He has a wealth of playing experience and has played in the top leagues of the EFL, I really hope he does well for the Os.
Agree Sid, well worth a gamble.
He will be a fool if he takes the job without full control,
That means giving Ling a very very shortlist of players he wants to keep for next season.
If the club can’t agree with this then I expect him to turn it down.
Right now it would be wrong to ask him to consider players for next season. Has enough to do. In due course if he is offered and wants the job full time he will have significant input into who stays and who goes and is ideally placed to decide who fits into his way of thinking.

I have little doubt he would be on the transfer committee and have a much bigger say that Ross about who comes in. Far more able to discuss players ability and how they fit into the system he wants to play.

I would imagine he knows already who he wants to get rid of.
