Mid table - from 5 at home/7 away. Not exactly a disaster!

No, and I’m sure we’ll stay mid table.

But that’s not great given the squad we have. A proper manager would have them playing better, winning games, and in a much stronger league position. Most teams would have the likes of Vigaro, Happe, Cisse, Jobi, Johnson, Wilko etc straight in their first choice 11.

I’m in the doom and gloom brigade and haven’t renewed my season
ticket for the past couple of seasons purely and simply cos of the
brand of football on offer in E10 and this after 50 years following the
club..
There is no way if we carry on as we are we will finish mid table and
without LV in goal we’d be rubber shoulders with Southend at present,
I’ve just looked at the league table and although Tranmere (replaced
there manager), Oldham (Harry Kewell hanging on with poor results) and
Scunthorpe are either level on points with the O’s or a couple behind and
we believe a couple of good results we could make the plays off..

Bottom 6 finish..

It has recently been stated that the club will lose £3m or so this year. As a result of this, despite Kent Teague expecting us to reach the play-offs this season, the club cannot afford to pay off Boss and his mates if the axe was wielded on them. Similarly, the club can't afford to bring in more than one or two cheapo players in the January window.

If you look on the club's website, there are hordes of backroom staff at the club and I wonder what many of them do, for what would be decent money, at a club in the bottom league. They all cost money and the two owners won't want to continue chucking a lot of money into the club only for it to be seeing out the season in the lower reaches of the league.

In a macabre way, the pandemic has probably meant that Embleton will keep his job longer than he might otherwise have done.
Ling isn't going to look for Embleton to be sacked any time soon. Having brought 3 managers to the club, he got lucky with the choice of Edinburgh but chose 2 dire managers in Davies and Fletcher. He pushed for Embleton to be given the job even though Embleton didn't want it. Ling doesn't now want to go to the owners to say that he made another bad choice.
Beelzebub had Angelieri cocking things up when he was not in the UK and the club's 2 owners now have Ling doing similar. Whilst Ling is backing Embleton he will remain. If the owners overrule Ling's thoughts on this then Ling should leave.
It is a bloody mess.

I don’t get why some boarders get lambasted for stating the bleeding’ obvious:

Embleford is not up to the job.

If he has to stay due to the overall finances of the club at this time then that’s ok by me. But it doesn’t mean I retain a scintilla of confidence in him to fulfill his role in anything other than a mediocre way.

Agree with this, although I think we should doubt whether Fumbleton really us the wide-eyed innocent he makes himself out to be sometimes. His ambition has outstripped his ability for a while - he wasn't known to be an unequivocal supporter of Davis (fair enough you might say) and he was less than chuffed about Edinburgh's arrival (though JE soon had him happily back in his box).

We all know, R oss isnt up to the job
Im sure R oss knows himself, he isnt up to the job
Im pretty sure, deep down, Nigel Travis knows R oss isnt up to the job
I reckon, the players also feel R oss isnt up to the job.
There's no way R oss will get the sack this season, however R oss could decide himself he wants out
As someone else said...its a bit of a mess

Speaking of interviews - does anyone here like the epic style of Embleton's? They're routinely 7, 8, 9 minutes long. Look back at JE's, they were all done and dusted in 3 or 4. Either the new media ladz aren't so good at snappy editing, or (more likely) Dissembleton substitutes waffle for substance. JE had a very clear and strong idea of what he wanted, how it worked, and how to convey it - and this came over in his very plain and concise speaking style. It conveys confidence and clarity to players and fans alike - Dissembleton on the other hand uses a lot of buzzwords and bluster because his main objective is to try and cover up the fact that he hasn't actually got a Scooby.

Even the way Embleton discussed that sounded weak, like he felt duty bound to start Dennis on the back of a consolation goal against Charlton reserves in a dead rubber game of a pointless cup.

If Johnson was tired he shouldn't have played any minutes Tuesday and if he was being rested then swap like-for-like with Wilkinson, keep the same formation and playing style that got results.

With JE from the first interview you could immediately see his authority and clear rational plan coming through and had absolute faith in how he wanted to shape the team. With Embleton it's the opposite, he looks lost and whilst trying to show leadership it's just words with no substance.

1) Dennis’ confidence would have been up after scoring on Tuesday. Every team is rotating its players with so many games to play in a short time. DJ is clearly first choice but I can see why Dennis got the nod yesterday.

2) You were moaning about our formation and playing style just a couple of weeks ago FFS. Can’t have it both ways.

3) Again you’re making the mistake of not looking beyond a manager’s interviews. Conversations about team selection and shape/tactics with the players will be different than what the fans see, and trying to give a 30-second summary immediately after a game to an interviewer is not easy. You’re over-analysing to suit your own argument.

4) Ross will never be able to win in your eyes if you keep comparing him to JE. They are just such different people. Yes JE had a very succinct communication style in interviews, but if a manager doesn’t come across like that it doesn’t mean he isn’t an effective leader. Slade and Ling Were totally different characters to JE too but no-one seems to mention that

The playing style changed against Bolton where we showed some tempo and balls in our play to go out and attack on the front foot. Long overdue and something seemed to trigger it as it was such a marked change from other performances.

That game got heaps of deserved praise all round. So what does RE do... change it all trying to be some sort of master tactician.

The only way he'll win people over is by... winning but for every step forward there's always 1-2 back again from his own mistakes.

I dont agree with those players being in a first choice of a top 6 club though. Maybe Vigaroux and Happe. Johnson has been good but not better than others already up there. Jobi is 39, looks good for us but wouldn't get in a top 6 side. Wilko is so one footed, every defender knows where he wants to go when on the ball but he is OK for us. (The same for Brophy but he has the speed to get in behind).

This is why we are not top 6. A manager/head coach has to work with the squad he has until windows open. We have been hamstrung by the contracts we got promoted with ( you have to add in the passing of JE that hampered recruitment.)

I remain convinced that we will not go down and that by next July, we will have moved on up to 8 players and the new influx will be of a much better quality and we will be able to challenge for promotion.

If not, then the DOF will be under a lot of pressure. He is in charge of this, supported by the Head Coach and the Head Scout.

I am being patient. I hope other can be also.
