Widdowson is fine at LB, he wont cost us many games.for the club to say ‘he’s asked to play at CB’ and use that as a reason to why we won’t replace Marv is f*cking laughable.
I’m proved right about the other bloke time after time.

Agree, a very defensive left back who is nothing special and unable to contribute much going forward, not a good crosser of the ball when in the position to do so.redintheface wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 5:57 pm Frankly never rated Widdowson particularly highly as either a left back or centre back !

Also has tendency to be complacent imho Sid! When playing at left back sits off his winger allowing far too much room and time for the cross.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 8:47 amAgree, a very defensive left back who is nothing special and unable to contribute much going forward, not a good crosser of the ball when in the position to do so.redintheface wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 5:57 pm Frankly never rated Widdowson particularly highly as either a left back or centre back !

Re: Widdowson & Ling
Its all about what we do next season with these positions imo.
This year we need to stay within a very tight budget, even more so with covid losses factored in. We've not got a great chance at the top 7 imo, and probably wont go down so having two cheap players who aren't that good in those positions is frustrating, but understandable.
But if the board are to believed (and i dont have any reason to think they would be lying), our ambitions as part of the plan would be to at least challenge for promotion next year, and go up in the next 3 years.
There's not a club in the league that would be pushing for promotion and have Ling and Widdowson anywhere near their first team. Thats probably obvious to most people and so if there ambition next season is there, i expect replacements.

No one is calling for Ross to go. No one.Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:14 pmAgree with that too but the start we have made shows that Boss is manager material for us but fans are looking for every chance to say 'Boss out'. They have been very quiet in the last month but low and behold, a defeat brings them back.gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 5:58 pmThink it says something about the manager that players are telling him where they will play rather than other way around. Wilkinson brought in as a striker tells Embleton he wants to be a winger instead now Widdowson turns into a CB. It's all very strange.Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 5:52 pm
I agree about JW.....was good last season at LB too once he got up to speed. Broph I would prefer to see at LM but he has done well at LB but it is JW that has said to the gaffer about playing at CB in which he has gone for. I think we need a new centre half but considering this is our first defeat (especially since we have had COVID over the last two weeks), Boss can't be blamed.
*Boss comes up as Boss for some reason!
However, yes covid had an impact yesterday, but how many times are we going to concede goals down our right hand side? Why can’t the manager see where the weakness is? Is he blind to it? Is there an instruction from his boss to play his son over others? Preseason Judd was impressive yet now is nowhere to be seen! How can someone prove to be the shirt holder by performance yet like I said in a bet with Tuffers ling will start the season regardless. I was proved right.

Lung is a different matter. Everyone knows he’s not up to it at this level - us fans, the opposition, his team mates, he must know it himself. There’s only 2 people who can’t see it.
Nepotism is obvious after today.

Ling jr is so bad, its become embarrassing. There genuinely can be no other reason than he's the bosses son, that he gets a regular place in a league 2 team.

Even if Joe has come in and said that, which he’s perfectly entitled to do, it’s bonkers for the club to announce that’s the reason we haven’t replaced Marvin.
As said, i don’t mind him at CB, he was fine yesterday, but let’s not pin our cost cutting on him.

agreed although you would ask questions of the 2nd goal, his positional sense and his marking, other than that he was ok. I'd still rather he be our left back though as I think he's decent there.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 11:24 amIs this true? The club have announced that? Re: Widdowson & Ling
Neither are good enough full backs in my humble opinion, and for a club who in time I expect to be challenging for promotion, these are obviously weak areas.
Widdowson isn’t a centre back, and come to that am not convinced about Brophy at left back either.

At half time in the 3rd league game of the season, 2 players are getting called out. The side ain't even trained together and we had a cobbled together side out there. I love this club, as we all do, but sometimes our supporters get the results their contributions to that result deserves.Huxley wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 4:30 pmTo be fair, pointing out that a left back shouldn’t be playing as starting XI CB doesn’t exactly make somebody a naysayer.LittleMate wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 4:22 pm It does not take long for the naysayers to come out, does it?

A couple of fans bleating on about how bad some of our players played yesterday in no way contributed to the amount of time their left winger had yesterday.

Could be right. Ling is usually marking wide open spaces as far away from the action as possible. Sometimes he gets lucky and gets involved.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 1:11 pm I did not see the game
Is the space everyone talks about because they may be using a zone system for marking now ?

Regardless of it being the 3rd league game of the season and that the team hadn’t trained together for two weeks, a LB shouldn’t be starting at CB.LittleMate wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 2:13 pmAt half time in the 3rd league game of the season, 2 players are getting called out.
