Yes it was a coincidence wasn't it !
To be honest, more like they seem to want Ling to play in every game and also wanted to see Thomas play at right back, so holding midfield for Sam it was !

I understand why they’ve done it.

This is the formation we’re going with. Across nearly all positions, we have decent cover/genuine competition for each place. The holding CM is the one exception - Cisse is head and shoulders above anyone else in that spot and the only cover is Hector. And we all know the clubs aversion to playing the kids.

It was a worthwhile experiment. It just massively failed so we move on.

Any Orient goal is a "Good Goal" and for Sam Ling it should be a good boost for his confidence. I think he's best suited position is somewhere in midfield, perhaps holding role.

Love Sams goal video that flashed up on the clubs twitter when he scored.

He just puts his fingers in his ears.......wonder who that's aimed at?

Others on this forum may well say that it was a success playing Ling in that role and also point out to the fact that not playing as a full back gave him the chance to score with a well placed header. Strange the celebration after the goal, wonder why Johnson got all the attention and the goal scorer little to none ?
I think my ideal holding midfielder would be a good tackler, have good positional sense to be in the right place at the right time, also to be a good header of the ball so that he can be a first line of the defence and head away balls played down the middle area of the pitch. Lastly a good passer of the ball, be it long or short so as to quickly keep the ball moving to his own team mates.

Be interesting on Saturday. I would think its most unlikely Ling will platy as a holding midfielder, when we have Cisse, so does he revert back to RB, or will Thomas play there?
Johnson is looking like a class act so far. He is very quick controlling the ball and hitting it. Think he's the first name on the teamsheet now.

Is it his dad, asking him inappropriate questions again?

Hardly a GREAT goal was it ?
Looked like a routine sort of header which at least he kept on target.
Being in the right place is worthy of recognition. It only fair that after the criticism at FGR he gets a little praise for the goal. Personally I much prefer him in the role against BHA. Looks far more comfortable and less exposed.

But that may put him in competition with Cisse in the league and frankly that’s no contest. So He will be RB again on Saturday.

He could still go up for set pieces when playing full back.

Pretty much it. Especially as Senior said he played there before In his career before moving to RB. And he did OK too.

Thomas did enough to show he is much better at RB but perhaps needs more minutes before getting a league game. More mobile and much better on the balI. would be surprised if Ling doesn’t play RB on Saturday. Happily surprised.

He could, you are right. But we don’t know what instructions he gets from Ross. It would worry me if he did to be honest. He is pretty slow getting back, best leave him where he has a head start on nifty forwards.

Which is one of the reasons why I prefer the energetic Judd to Ling when it comes to who plays at Right Back, but with the signing of the loan player Thomas, it is quite obvious that Judd is out of favour and perhaps even 4th choice behind Turley, Ling, and Thomas of players available for the the right back position. If Judd s not transferred as has been recently rumoured on this forum, then surely better for the young man to go out on loan to another club to get the chance of some games under his belt.

It was not Brighton U21, it was Brighton U36.
