Bobby Collins
well done mate
Thanks !
Bobby Collins was a great player, hard as nails and a legend at both Celtic and Leeds Utd.
A 5' 3'' pocket dynamo in midfield but well past his best when he left Leeds Utd in 1967 to join Bury.
Quote '' Collins continued to skipper Leeds until 1966, when he suffered a horrific broken thighbone in a Fairs Cup tie against Torino. He briefly came back from the injury, but age and a struggle to reclaim previous form brought his Leeds career to an end.''
He signed for Bury in 1967 and stayed there till 1969.

That pic certainly brought back memories, I was only 7 then, only just started going to matches, tube from Loughton with my dad. Pretty sure Rofe lived up the road from us in/ off Oakwood Hill (as did pianist Mrs Mills), he then swanned off to Leicester of course.

Goddard was a good keeper, bit injury prone subsequently and Jackson got signed. Recall Mancini going up for corners, and scoring a few headers from them too. Allen was quality, Halom too, cup winners medal a few years away for him when the photo was taken.

today Goddard and others like him would not get picked up or signed to a pro club as they are too short. Shilton wouldn't have got picked up either.

I'm hearing that you've got to be at least 6ft 2" and I know Brendon Rogers turned down a keeper even though his attitude was excellent, performance excellent and he spoke highly of the lad, but he was looking for someone who is around 6ft 5" 6ft 6".

Is that why Charlie Grainger didn't have his contract renewed...he was only 6ft 1 1/2''? :(

Dont think Dennis Rofe "swanned" off to Leicester as he was a quality left back and deserved to play in the top division. In fact he would probably get into my all time Orient team on ability although Matt Lockwood was a player i loved but Rofe just had that special quality that played at the top.

was talking about this today
My job was to place the programmes in the home and away dressing rooms
without doubt the smallest footballer was Bobby Collins of Bury - but what a player - face like granite , but the warmth of the man
Now the tallest, not player but Manager was Ron Flowers manager of Northampton, and former England and Wolves player, giant of a man with red hair
Or was it that I was small then ?
