He's terrible.
Though I think most recognise that already.

Blur. One or two tracks aside, really couldn't grasp what anyone got from them. Country House particularly is an utter abomination that deserves to be never heard again.

One of the biggest steaming piles of poo ever (Country House). Again one or two tracks aside, their music has not aged well.

There are many ok to decent bands/ singers, who get a good album or two out and a number of likeable songs, but can be a bit of a struggle to listen to the bulk of their work.

Never really got the following full stop:
Oasis (good call Scuba Diver)
Prince
U2

I think that the 8.8 million people who saw him on his last tour don't.

As i always say to my mates if everyone liked the same sort of music their would be 3 bands on the radio and it would be poo poo.

As i've posted on the other thread RadioHead (Thom Yorke sounds like he's having a tooth pulled when he sings) Pink Floyd (self indulgent bollocks).

On an aside I had a barman in my local who refused to serve me cos of my opinions about Radiohead. His rationale was that they're all technically brilliant musicians mine was they may well be but they can't write songs and TY can't sing apart from that they're brilliant.

Scuba Diver wrote: Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:11 am My shout is Oasis. Not 'sh!t', as such, that's not fair, but ludicrously over-rated: they're a pub band.
I find them however utterly, utterly, mundane. The lyrics are appalling nothingness. Vaguely Beatlesy, vaguely hippie-ish, vaguely 60s - there is not a shred of originality to their work.
With the hundreds of bands out there, Why would you listen to Oasis?
Captured the zeitgeist of the 90s well though

Mumford & Sons

I have no clue why this terrible act have ever managed to acquire any semblance of kudos. To me their tunes are one step away from listening to fingernails scraping across an old blackboard

Others who have flown high, but to my mind are utter bilge

Maria Carey - (awful caterwauling and a horrible person to boot)
Coldplay (needs no explaining)
Eminem - (very close to impersonating black people, like a modern day minstrel - and just as offensive)
Agree on all of these. The Mumfords got found out very quickly.

Would add The Stereophonics to the list too.

Definitely U2, seen them a few times and thought they were great. Last time at Twickenham I was sober and was surprised that all their songs actually sounded the same.

Muse - modern day Queen wannabes

Dulplay - agree with earlier post, the first album was great but Chris Martin is an annoying little f***, a bit like Bono

Bit of a theme.

Origin of Symmetry is a great album. They should have given up after that.

Agree.
It's all subjective, of course: They seem to be regarded as 'cool', but for me , the songs just aren't "good enough" to warrant any further inspection

I hear ya, Jim: but, on that rationale (that being many people have sucked it up, so it must be "good"), so I assume you'd also similarly rate on the same basis:

Spice Girls
One Direction
Westlife etc. etc.

Agree wholeheartedly with your second point though...

Sunburn was okay too. Post these; they simply became a parody, and should have long since thrown it in....

Sunburn was a single from the first album, called Showbiz. I think the first 3 albums are terrific, but they lost their way spectacularly after that. Shame, because they’re a brilliant live band. Their Glastonbury set in 2004 is still probably the best thing I’ve ever been to.

didn't say it was my opinion but several million people obviously think he's ok.

I personally can take or leave him wouldn't pay to see him but if somebody offered me a ticket I'd go.

I saw him at Glastonbury and he was dull. I understand why he is popular and has some decent songs but I just think his music will age incredibly badly. It's cringe-worthy.
