George wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 12:31 pm It’s the same advise now as it’s always been. Social distance , regular hand washing , and now if inside , wear a mask. Until we are given a proper breakdown of the make up of cases , it’s difficult to understand the virus. I doubt there have been many deaths outside of the vulnerable groups previously given.
There needs to be more emphasis on the scale of the problem. 70 million people in the Uk.Even if there were 100,000 deaths , it’s not enough to crash the economy.
I take it youve never been in incredibly tight spaces working with a plumber to fix
Pipes uner a bath lets say , you are for example lifting a bath with your neck & back so
A plumber can squeeze his hands & head into a tight space to undo pipes , your holding onto a sink basin to give yourself a bit of extra weight in your pushing up off the bath with your hands, the plumber opens the pupe
Water shoots out of the pipe & hits you in the face , you instictively wipe the water from your face & eyes
The mask you are wearing becomes soaked so you need to dry it out , you touch it with your hands .

You dont know if the person in the flat has been coughing or sneezing , or indeed is asymptomatic.

Like I said before , you can NOT gaurentee saftey , you can follow all the guidelines you like
But you can NOT guarentee it .

I own an electrical and mechanical engineering company Tuffers. We worked right through the lockdown as we were advised to do. We did it safely , nobody was placed at risk , and we continue to do the same.

This is a thread specifically about a plumbing firm famous for fixing peoples plumbing
problems at home ,Most plumbers & Electricians i know were advised not to work unless they were key workers.

If your company employees were not key workers i assume you broke lockdown rules &
therefore should be looked into by the authorities.

If they were classed as key workers then its not a problem.

"you can NOT gaurentee saftey"

You can if you stay in your villa in Marbella and let every one else take the risk.

Tuffers , you need to know your facts. At no stage were anyone in the construction industry told to stop. We were one of the industries encouraged to continue

I have friends who are in the building trade
Some were instructed to stop work .

Some were allowed to continue.

Those allowed to continue were working on New Builds or
For national companies thames water , electric comps , british gas etc
Those told to stop were what you would probably class as
General builders & amongst there staff would be plumbers
electricians plastererss roofers etc .

I think i have more grasp on facts than you think good sir.

He subs for a company that specialises in the maintenance
Of very plush apartment blocks in & around the city the west end etc.

The managing agents were very aware of the many O.A.p's of very
respectable finances within these places & had been instructed by
Local councils to refrain from work unless an extreme Emergency ,
the council were under instruction of M.Ps , as they looked after
a lot of there london apartments in & around westminster.

Tuffers. Obviously owning a company that operates in the building trade , I know the advice given better than you clearly do. The construction industry was one of the industries that was excluded from lockdown. The main reason for this was because government did not want to furlough self employed tradesmen. In the end they had to.
Any industry that could not be carried out at home , and could be carried out safely and with no risk to others , was able to continue trading as normal.

Where I do agree with you , however , is that of course i would not have expected anyone to have worked in an occupied building if avoidable.
All of our works is involved in New build industrial warehousing so easy to continue safely

Which is pretty much what i said .

The problem here is this guy is speaking more specifically about his own staff & not generally other peoples all though he is bringing others into the discussion
He complained his workers felt unsafe travelling in
or indeed.working in strangers houses.

He is upset because his money will be less
this year than before .
He needs to suck it up .

Everyone has suffered some sort of hardship.
Even those who worked hard for there money
While others just went for walks & spent time
with family all while getting 80% of there money.
