Essex CCC had their HQ in Leyton, the very same place that Leyton Orient are based
I come from Leyton and used to watch Essex play cricket there every year during the festival week.
From my front room window I could see the County Ground, so named because its where the county team of Essex played

Does that answer your mindless question?
Festival week, that brings back memories !! I remember going there for a one day match festival week in the 1970s with my Uncle Jack ( he had moved to Brighton and always came up to see his brothers and sisters in the Woodford area in festival week ) and watching Essex play the then strong
Leicestershire side play Essex. Keith Fletcher batting Vs Ray Illingworth bowling !! What a contest and I am sure I can recall Fletcher hitting Ray Illingworth over the top for a straight six, wonderful days cricket !

Fond memories of festival week, McMullens beer tent, old scoreboard lorry and some great matches.
Particularly rememeber a massive stand between Ken McEwan and Keith Pont v Glamorgan (I think)
Keith Boyce hitting a six that walloped against a passing bus, Bishen Bedi working his magic for Northants
Happy days and to think back then Essex had never won a sodding thing ever

You mentioned some great players there, Ken McEwan, what a batsman and such a shame that like many other South Africans of that era, we never got the chance to see him play at international level. Keith Boyce, a real character, fast/medium Bowler when West Indies had so many great fast bowlers, explosive and hard hitting batsman as well, lastly the wonderful spin bowler, Bishen Bedi such a clean and economical action who could bowl near enough all day.

Ken McEwan, what a fabulous player. The festival weeks were great. Leyton, Ilford, Southend etc. The scoreboard was one of the joys of going!

I would not be that surprised if Cook was to get a telephone call this summer, asking him to help his Country and come out of retirement for the Ashes series. I think it was all the travelling abroad that hastened his retirement from International Cricket.

Shudder to think what Essex would do without him, looking at the second innings' contributions from the top batsmen. Come to think of it the 1st innings would have been a disaster without Cook's 125.

Yes I watched Leyton week every summer too. Great times remember Robin Hobbs bowling and Keith Fletcher batting. Clear link to Orient for me.

Just remembered Ray East, always liked a little bit of light comic relief, fine bowler too.

Did anyone else go the B&H final at Lords that brought the first ever trophy.
Recall it was rather a boozy day and the place seemed full of Essex supporters

I know I’m showing my age but I’ve seen Essex at Leyton, Ilford, Sarfend, Colchester, Brentwood, Westcliff, Gidea Park and Chelmsford.

And Robin Hobbs, my hero, I remember him coaching me at Ilford cricket school behind the Beehive pub in Gants Hill. A great biography of him came out last year.

East, Hobbs and Acfield what a spin trio. Who plays 3 spinners nowadays.

Don't forget Clacton! I remember seeing Jim Laker playing for Essex at Ilford and Trevor Bailey stonewalling on the first day of a 3 day CC match.

Well done Essex, great win. BBC rightly talking though about 'papering over the cracks', ie Cook's 215 runs in the match masked the woeful batting again of Westley, Lawrence and Browne.

Too expensive to move matches at out grounds now that’s why all are at Chelmsford
