He used to be a printer so it's probably some print type, setting or such like.

With certain letterpress units it is also possible to join movable type with slugs cast using hot metal typesetting. In theory, anything that is "type high" or .918 inches can be printed using letterpress.

I knew, when .918 first started posting on this board, that he must have had printing or typesetting connections. I was a hot metal
compositor for over twenty years and his user name struck a chord with me. Oh, how I miss those days.
