Might even leave her a packet of Hamlet cigars in the glove box.
A few years ago I bought an X type jag, 2.5 V6 for £1,200 At the market. It was, as said above, a cracking car for not much money. Leather seats etc.
Unfortunately, after only 6 weeks of luxury motoring Mrs Gold hit a bus and wrote it off. The good news was that I got £2,900 for it from the insurance company. Cashback!!

That is quite tempting. I fancied buying a W12 Phaeton a few years back just to drive something daft for a few months but chickened out in the end.
I've had a lot of fun the last few years with a fastish car but getting increasingly fed up with 20 mpg on a good day and paying a premium for everything, particularly the parking permit since moving. Not quite ready for a full on dad mobile yet but getting under 200g/km CO2 would save about £600 a year.

Your first port of call is to check Insurance premiums on a selection of small cars and also be mindful of the Year it was registered as newer models of the same car can be cheaper than older versions. If you can, also go for petrol over diesel as the running costs are marginal now. Lastly, get her something that SHE likes (as long as reasonable), otherwise you may find she ends up leaving the car on the drive as ends up embarrised to drive it. Maybe look at Smart cars, can even tell her it's made by Mercedes (which is true to an extent).

Do not get any small Honda or Toyota vehicles as the scum that walks the Earth will have your Catalytic converter away
in no time flat. That is exactly what happened to my partner's car. It takes around 10 to 15 seconds for these bastards to
whip it off the car, and you'll be paying upwards of £800 pounds to replace it. There is an epidemic of these thefts
going on at the moment. Be warned.

We took a different route with our daughter. Binned off our old second car (MX5 - after it got written off when a caravan broadsided it parked outside our house), got an i10 and put her on my insurance. She was off to Uni 18 months after passing her test anyway and didn’t need her own car for that, and only wanted access for an occasional social drive in sixth form.
Told her if she had an her-fault accident or picked up speeding tickets she’d be back on foot/the bus, and to be fair she’s avoided both so far (5 years later), and we keep the same arrangement. It’s rare that all 3 of us need a car at the same time when she’s back home, as she is now, even though we live rurally, so it’s rarely a problem (but guess who goes without when it does happen...

)
Still have the i10 which we bought new, which is a great little run around, and not caused us any grief or unexpected expense. I usually choose to use it over the “main” car (BMW X1).

I am currently driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla. Engine is perfect it's, the other bits that fall apart. Boot gas struts, window winders, mirrors currently broken or unusable.
Luckliy the pandemic has stopped all NCT MOT car tests.
Best 200 euro I ever spent.
Also added bonus of cassette player

As its for your daughter I would recommend easy to clean seats and door panels etc as her friends will inevitably vomit on it as she becomes nominated driver.

I bought a 16 year old Toyota Yaris (£1400, 60,000 miles) and it runs perfectly. These things go on forever. Next year it goes to my eldest grandson as his first car. For a few quid more you can get them with all the air-con and other bells and whistles.
