Are you talking Airfix soldiers? I was thinking of these just the other day. Even had a look on ebay, to bring back memories of the various armies.

Even in 2 inch high plastic, the Germans always had the better style of uniforms.
I remember staring to paint mine - green helmet and sand coloured uniform for the 8th Army - but got bored after doing about a dozen. Used to have a couple of those spring powered howitzers and fired matches from them to decimate the Afrika Korps.
Wow remember that well I only had one howitzer but same game I was the best General I knew, never lost a campaign, the memories come flooding back

We used to set up our armies on the carpet and rolled marbles at them to knock them down. Utter devastation.

Some people rather than roll the marble tried bouncing them in to destroy defensive fortifications.

OK - got me going now. Did you make tanks from old cotton reels? Bit of candle with a hole through it, rubber band anchored one side of reel -> pushed through the reel and candle hole, pencil sat in groove in candle. Wind up and point at enemy. Carnage.

I once got a battery operated tank for Xmas but it was out of all proportion to the size of the infantry which meant it could not participate fairly in open warfare. And also back in the 60s batteries were expensive and lasted for about five minutes.

Well that takes me back. Bruv and I made up cotton tanks and had mega battles. He was 10 years older and I always wondered why I lost. I'd wind mine up so tight to compete that the band would break with the pencil flying across the room. Found out the sod picked better elastic bands.

I was a guest of a very wealthy pal (over£400 million) in Las Vegas to see world title fight. He paid for hotel, flight , and $1500 v.i.p ringside tickets which my father procured, and which I could have sold for $5000 each. Once we were there we shared the expenses so that if he paid for a meal, show, or drinks I bought the next. As for gambling he did his thing, obviously much higher stakes, and I did mine, mostly unsuccessfully while on one occasion he won $10,000.
Anyway, I played the jackpot giant slot which linked every hotel in Vegas and is usually won at about $20 million, but was currently $32million and rising. It was $5 a spin and you had to get 5 kings crowns through the lines.
I pulled the giant handle and got 3 through the line, one bellow and one above. I said to the girl perched on her stall “give me a hundred dollar roll”, now convinced I was definitely going to win.
Each pull saw the crowns shuffling about either through , above , or below the line. People having seeing it were whooping and cheering every time I pulled and I soon had literally hundreds shouting encouragement.
Well one by one the crowns disappeared as did the crowd and my $100.
My pal who had been friends since age of ten said “you will never be closer to a fortune than that”, as if I needed telling.
He then said “you know I was half in that with you”. I said “how do you work that out”, and he went ashen , prodded me in the chest
and said I fxxxxxg paid for your trip. That was our first ever row and we didn’t sipeak for the rest of the day. I would have paid for his next half dozen trips but I wouldn’t give a mega rich person $16 million friend or not.....Had he been on a level standing I would have willingly given several million.....right or wrong.

Then some what 🤣🤣

Quite a few years back (Brian Blower was commercial manager) I sold tickets for the Leyton Orient grand christmas draw, £1000 1st prize, £500 2nd prize, £250 3rd prize. If you sold a ticket that won as the seller you got 10% of the value of the prize.

I took 400 tickets and sold 396 of them, I hadn't intended to buy any but the ticket stubs and money had to be back at the club the following day and I had exhauted all my contacts, I could'nt be arsed to return the last four so bought them myself.

Come the day of the draw one of the tickets was picked out and won second prize so I won £500 + £50 commision. The only thing that I have ever won.

Oh I see. I don't think we spent literally hours creating Bandoff to have it sullied by sexist frippery like that. We created it so that we could find the best crisps (inc. other snacks) or the best religion, or the best film.

Sorry Bigron, I shall have to pass on that. The next Bandoff shall be.......to be decided (but I think I might do films so I can use an existing list for the group stage entrants
