Why?

Why was voting Labour a way of applauding the NHS? Conservatives have run the NH S far longer than Labour. Before you ask, my wife has been an NHS nurse for 35 years and I voted Conservative.

It matters quite a lot. Since the NHS was first mooted the Tory party have opposed it on principle and (when in government) in practice. The Tories have been trying to run it into the ground in order to justify flogging it off since it was founded. It seems perverse to pat the doctors and nurses on the shoulder with one hand whilst stabbing them in the back with the other.

There I was happily clapping away until the Bulgarian woman a few doors away came out and started banging a saucepan with a ladle. She totally drowned everyone else out and got on my nerves, so I had to go back inside.

Lest we ever forget that Churchills' Conservative Party voted TWENTY ONE TIMES in 1946, against the Labour Party passing the act; and subsequently setting up the N.H.S. on 4th July 1948.

The National Health Service is truly the Jewel in the Crown of British Socialism. Neither you, nor any other tory, can take that away from the history books......no matter how hard you try; dislike it; or however much rhetoric you wish to spout.

I’m not sure you’d find anyone saying get rid of the nhs, in fact I’d say you would hear the opposite that I’d happily contribute more towards its running. If the Torres wanted to get rid of it, why are they spending more money than ever before on it?

The actions and the lefts words don’t match I’m afraid.

Why would any sane person dislike the NHS. The NHS is genuinely one of the best things, perhaps the best thing that any political party has done. Who is trying to say otherwise. No political party wants to get rid of the NHS.

Just listened to an American politician on TV saying just how lucky we are. And he he 100% right.

You perhaps need to look at the contribution of Henry Willink who in 1941 started to put forward the idea of free health care and helped put together a paper called “A National Health Service”, this formed the basis of the improved system introduced by Bevan in 1948. Willink was a Conservative MP and Minister of Health. It could be argued the Conservative Party introduced the concept. But I’m no historian and my school days are long since gone. I dare say google will oblige. Personally I can’t be arsed, I’m just happy it exists and separates this great country from others.

Slightly less clappers down my street last night but those that did attend were very enthusiastic.
I lost my father on Wednesday to the Coronavirus in Harlow Hospital and he’d been in there for around a month with various health issues following a fall in his garden. The Covid-19 was the final nail but the care he got whilst in there from the nurses and Doctors was fantastic and I can’t speak highly enough of them.
The really sad part was that I and others weren’t able to be with their loved ones as they passed away, leaving them to die alone.
What awful times we are currently living in.

Really sorry to hear about this, fella. It really is awful that so many are going through this. Hope you're doing okay.

I'm very sorry for your loss CheshuntO. I think this horrid disease keeping families apart, especially at the worst of all possible times, is it's most nasty side.

Hope you begin to see it brighter soon.
