I could not get to this match as I used to attend grammar school on Saturdays until 12:40pm (I lived in King's Lynn at the time). However, I did manage to get to Filbert Street to see the Os beat Leicester 2-0 in the previous round.

Coronation gardens are at the South end of the stadium , Hoadley scored in the North end I think you'll find

As I said I saw it from behind Hoadley (almost directly behind) so I could see the trajectory very clearly.

No problem mate - I've had a couple myself, hence the snappy reply.

In the westside for this epic, it was full of Chelsea lads smelling of beer, fags and brut. An Orient 'I was there moment' for sure. 1972 wow, time flies.

This match was in the days before segregation, I went with my sister's boyfriend who was a Chelsea fan. We were in the east stand, he was not well pleased, but as I was only a lad, he had to be on his best behaviour, otherwise I would have told my sister.

My greatest memory apart from the goals themselves was of a Chelsea supporter in front of me who had a big poster of Peter Osgood that he had been waving about and chanting when they were 2-0 up. He was quite obnoxious, as most other supporters are, but with each Orient goal, he quieter and quieter and after Barry Fairbrother scored our winner he ripped up the poster in disgust.

My favourite goal was definitely the equaliser from Bullock after the mix-up between Webb and Bonetti.

The end of February was clearly a good month for Orient to play Chelsea in the cup!

Amazing really to see people have written elsewhere we
"Held our own" in the 2nd Division , all we really got
Out of it was 2 cup runs & a near miss on promotion in 73/74 & thats about it.

Great memories but very few & far between.

To be fair, over 10 consecutive seasons at what is now “ Championship” level was an achievement we have never looked like managing again so I think the great memories are worth cherishing!

Was Peter Kitchen's first goal against Chelsea the best ever by an Orient player? It must rank very highly up there.

oh to be a regular member of the championship these days...like those west London 'giants', Brentford (who seem to have consistently outperformed us as a club for around the last 20-30 years). They have moved on to another level, and now about to get a new ground. Still, I'm not envious

. Yeah. I can well recall Brentford being stuck in the old 4th division for many a long year in the 60’s!

Missed the 1972 match - in Uni at Manchester. One of the best Match of the Days I've ever seen!

I Was too young for the 72 game. I went to the 78 game at home, but my dad wouldn't take me to the bridge so I missed the reply.

Just sent both videos to a Chelsea supporting friend. Top stuff.

The 78 game at home was the 0-0 draw wasn't it? What I remember from that game was the Chelsea lot pushing a wall down - and a great save from John Jackson to keep it nil nil.

A great day and fantastic memories. Also Leicester away was an experience too.
My 'odd' recollection was however the queue for the match ticket in the lead-up to the game.
Seems i recall it going most of the way around the ground culminating in our tiny ticket office.

Love old clips like this. I was only 2 years old at the time & never really became interested The O's until the 78 Cup run, but it's great to watch all the same.

I remember going in through the turnstiles on the West Side, getting the ticket and then going across behind the goal and out through the East Stand exits!
