I'll have to bow down to your superior knowledge of the EU Water Framework Directive, however I was somewhat under the impression that the lack of flood defence work was due to UK government funding cuts rather than EU bureaucracy. Still - if it gives you leavers a crutch to lean on, I'll let it pass.
Just out of interest, how do you know that the caller on Radio 2 was giving facts? I mentioned Breitbart as I think it was the only place I saw any reference to the floods being caused by the legislation above.
As for Sid, Caca's already arrived at the same destination. Not only are you calling an opinion piece news, you're offering no opinion on it. Still, if it makes you happy. Enjoy the marmalade.

You've been on Breitbart again haven't you? Cheeky scamp.
To be honest no I have not, I heard it on a debate on radio 2, and the caller gave a whole loads of facts which related to the waterways. He also pointed out that since all the work was done in Somerset, guess what didn’t get flooded? It was a very interesting discussion to be fair.
Good old Jeremy Vine. He wants to stick to debates about the fire risk of having a thatched roof.

So with Keir Starmer's odds now at 1/12 and Mrs Merton (apologies to Richaard Littlejohn) at 8/1, have Paddy Power now begun to pay out early on Starmer bets? Seems like even more of a done deal than it was when the race started

The left tried their best to shaft him to no avail. Good to see we have an imminent Blairite as leader ready to make us electable again.

Three candidates, none of whom inspire me, but Starmer probably the best.....and by best, I mean capable of beating the Tories in 4½ years time
when he was a young man, newly qualified in law, he helped poor people to have a chance of taking on, and beating big corps, in court, something for which i admire him greatly

If your priority is to only win elections by supporting a politically vacuous lawyer you need to think again.
There is a battle going on to win the Labour Party to socialism. Starmer isn't part of that movement.

Isn't winning elections kind of the point - if you're never in the position to change anything, it's all just hot air.

Parliamentary politics is as you say all hot air.
All I'm saying is that it's better to focus on winning the fight for socialism within Labour and set aside electoral delusions for now.
Let's face it half of the current Labour Party did everything in their power to help lose Labour the last election. They need to be crushed and moved on before progress can be made.

You are right - that would be Corbyn, Abbott, RLB, McDonnell, McCluskey and the rest of their half.
It is important to recognise this fact so we can move on to electoral victory.

No one..I repeat no wants Socialism more than I do. Im nearly 70, and since I was about 6, unfairness seemed so wrong to me, but the last election finally made me admit what ive known inside for years, that is, the Establishment will never allow Socialism in this country.....NEVER.
The disgusting slurs and lies about Jeremy Corbyn, by the right wing Establishment, and powerful media, was unprecendented. The rich and wealthy will never give up their position through the result of an election
The only way socialism will happen in this country is through an Armed uprising, and you would need the military onside for that, and thats another thing that will never happen.
The Tories have won four elections on the spin, and punished the people for it...austerity etc. Eventually the people will see through the Tory lies and corruption, and if Labour isnt too left wing for the electorate, , they will finally win, and that could be in 2024
As has been said above, Socialism cannot do anything, unless it goes with power........a less socialist government is better than a tory one. Labour needs to win again

Comrade you are utterly confused.
Winning elections has only once produced a radical government.

Capitalists hire libertarians to say socialism is bad. Socialists say capitalism is bad for free. And libertarians will say everyone else is bad as long as they get paid.

The Tories made it a brexit election, so they will be judged on how well that has gone by 2024.

They will, but they will adapt their message to the conditions then - that's what they do. They're shameless shapeshifters who understand what the majority want to hear at that one time when it matters.
Labour need to stop being distracted by identity politics and issues that barely anyone cares about and recognise that they need to appeal to the wider general public with a consistent, simple-to-understand, and costed set of messages. I don't think it will happen though. Whilst Momentum are still pulling the strings it's very hard to see how a party with broad appeal is going to emerge, especially as "winning the argument" apparently constitutes a victory.
