I used to like going over Upton Park sometimes back in the 80s (as well as other clubs when I fancied it on my way to ticking off the (as was) 92. Lived near the ground for a few years and those were the days you could just rock up at 2.45 and pay on the gate for a pretty cheap terrace ticket for any game. They were pretty good for a few years then too. Stopped bothering when they went all-seater and got caught up in the PL bandwagon inflation that saw prices soar and pre-booking became necessary.

Seen one match at the Olympic Stadium - awful atmosphere and a right pain getting in & out in comparison.

Woolwich meanwhile moved to the same area as spurs were, so I guess that's a massive reason for the hatred between both sets of fans.

Arguably, Arsenal moved into Orient territory as Clapton is nearer to Highbury than Tottenham. When Arsenal moved Orient and Arsenal were in the same division and Orient arguably doing as well (6th in 1913 -1914). Orient had an average attendance of around 12,000 and Arsenal had about the same in Woolwich. When Arsenal moved to Highbury their attendances went up dramatically, whereas Orient's got smaller.

Orient then moved eastwards from Middlesex (Clapton) into Essex (Leyton) and into what may have been considered West Ham territory.

Orient were originally more of a north London Club than an east London club. Or at least North East https://londonist.com/2015/08/why-is-th ... e-district

A different era and one which I sadly miss.

as a student, I used to be able to stretch my grant to go to football matches all over the country often several games a week, cheap travel with my young thugs ( sorry young persons0 railcard and cheap admission.

Controversial again, but, don't actually mind (or care about) WHU that much in a negative sense.

Got a few mates who support them, and they All take a healthy interest in The O's. If they're being condescending, I haven't noticed it to be fair.
Not seen anyone rocking up at Orient in a WHU shirt at Brisbane Rd for years, though others may have.

I get completely why others dislike them, of course, being now (very) near neighbours.

I have to say I dislike Arsenal (essentially a franchise with a toxic, entitled, fan-base), and Chelsea (a Watford sized club artificially inflated with oil money, and a rather nasty, racist element to their support) much more than WHU.

Although a bigger club than us certainly, West Ham fans are not glory-hunters, and suffer in a similar vein to us, albeit usually 3 divisions higher.
