Sargeant - 6 - no real saves of note to make nor any chance with the goal
Marsh - 6 - best RB we have, not so great going forward but overall steady
Happe - 7 - solid, did well
Ekpiteta - 8 - as per Happe but with a goal
Brophy - 8 - defended well and a threat with his passing and attacking play, only just edged out for MOTM
Clay - 7 - noticed him getting involved going forward first half, not so much second
Wright - 7 - no doubt inspired by the day did well, assist for the second goal
Cissé - 8 - big presence physically and nice passer of the ball
JMD - 6 - a tad harsh but faded second half after a good first 45
Wilkinson - 7 - skillful player, still seems wasted on the right but had a good game kept running right until the end
Sotiriou - 8 - MOTM, changed the game with his pace and trickery to work the cross leading to the corner for the goal plus a ruthless finish for the second

Angol - 7 - better coming on from the bench, had a hand in buildup to the second and got the ball away from danger at the end
Harrold - 6 - battled for headers at the end
Kyrpianou - 6 - on to run down the minutes

Got to take this level of battling and commitment through to the Stevenage game.
Agreed with most of the comments although some of those marks are too high.

I was initially disappointed with the team selection - the new keeper should be in by now, Brophy and Marsh are being played out of position, Wright and Clay are still being picked despite some disastrous performances, Angol being left out again - but it was a much improved performance all round.

A two goal margin would have flattered us but we deserved the win. Admittdly, Newport offered absolutely nothing but let’s not focus on that.

I can’t be arsed to do individual ratings but special mentions to Ruel and Cisse for two excellent performances. They have made a massive difference to our starting team.
I give them all a 10
What you gonna do about it Red0😋

Amazing that we win and some boarders want to nit pick

Will have to watch their goal back to see if the stuff about Sargeant is justified but in real time seemed slack defending more than keeper error.

CM perhaps Clay and Wright might drop a point but then again the latter put in a cracking cross for the second goal. Both of them seem more effective now there's a physical presence breaking up play, exactly what's been missing for so long.

Still need a cover LB going forward so we don't end up in the recent situation again. Keep Marsh at RB now imo as he looks better than Ling & Judd combined.

Overall happy to be on the generous side tonight as the players dug in and committed themselves in a way they haven't been recently. The 50:50 challenges were took on with full blood and thunder, attacking players ran the channels and defensively closed down with more gusto.

Still need some reinforcements and to be more of a threat from open play. Saved somewhat by good corners today and Newport were poor, you can see why they're also down the bottom end of the table.

There’s literally no way Sarge could have come for that.

The fault lies with Happe and Harold, they totally let both men go.

Yep, agreed with all of that.

Marsh ain’t my sort of full back at all, he’s like Ling but much more comfortable on the ball, drives me mad that he’s so cautious. He put a couple of great balls in on the two occasions he did go forward.

Haven’t been for a while, but from bits I’ve read it seems like Brophys delivery and decision making is starting to improve. Is that fair to say?

Yeah, that’s reasonable.

Other than the shot first half that almost cleared the North Stand. :)

My wife turned to me and said why did he do it and I said it was way too tempting and it wanted to be smashed in the net. Like you say it went way high and wide, but I won't moan when people try to score cos without efforts you won't score.

Problem is, I don't know my North from my South! I actually sit in the South Stand so was very close to the goal, not right down the other end of the pitch!

I'm having a nightmare. I made the same error again. I do sit in the North Stand 'cos I'm an old bloke. Think I'm so delighted with a rare home win that I don't know whether I'm coming or going!

Having watched the highlights back I don't think Sargeant could come and get the cross but could've at least tried to dive to keep the header out, wasn't exactly travelling at speed. Not going to change the rating but would be no surprise to see Vigoroux come in if he actually gets deemed match fit before the end of the season.

The cross was not there to be had in my opinon, but the save was once they got up to head it as it just kind of sails by him. Brill was emphasising his movement after the game to him for the goal.

Other than that he deserves to keep.his place once more.

I’ve been calling for Vigaro for a while and happy for him to come in but still don’t think Sarge can do anything about that goal.

Brophy MoM for me, he was immense at the back and always offering something going forward. Marsh was wasted at RB and as a three with Cisse (deserved his plaudits) and Kyprianou we might even have a midfield (won't happen). Until today I hadn't seen what everybody had in Sotiriou but he led our line brilliantly and even with Wilkinson being only sort of okay we were eons better than in recent weeks. Thought JMD had a strange game, blowing hot and cold in the first half and disappearing in the second.

The big take from today is that, even with two players playing out of position, we looked a balanced side that dominated and were solid at the back. Can't remember the last time I was able to say that.

Makes it even more baffling that Ross has been reluctant to play Ruel - the kid looks classy and works hard. Also a shot in the eye for those morons who keep on spouting ‘now is not the time to play the youth’ line.

If they are good enough they are old enough.

IMO we have won a match, in spite of RE, not because of his amazing tactics and motivation skills. So far this season, Ross has made some poor team selections and has most of the time employed some timid tactics. Ruel showed what he could do in his brief time at Dover under the watchful eye of old Hess, Ogie doing the same now, another very good young player quickly starting to flourish under Hess, a player who Ross seems reluctant to give even a chance off the bench.

We didn’t move the ball out wide as much as we ha e done recently which obviously doesn’t suit jmd. I’d you think about it Brophy didn’t really get forwards or overlap him if at all. We played more centrally today, maybe that was the game plan?

Agreed.

He’s demonstrated that he’s good enough to play at this level right now. To suggest the didn’t warrant a place on the bench 3 months ago is nonsense. He should have had a lot more game time under his belt by now.

But we are where we are. He’s been given a game in his proper position, taken his opportunity and has to start again next week.
