Turley and ummm... at a push Harrold

It's not so much about letting players go but having no faith in Ling to replace them. If we say lost Angol and Ekpiteta I can see us only replacing them like for like with cheap loans, which doesn't address the chronic lack of depth in key areas.

Yep, the owners I reckon are in a right dilemma. I'm sure deep down, they know this management structure is not working. But look at the decisions and the upheavel it would cause to now change direction? I hope they have the foresight to see the problems that lay ahead and have the nerve to alter course.
If Holloway is willing to up sticks to a place like Grimsby, can you imagine how long it would have taken him to think about a move to Brisbane Road? I'm not necessarily saying he would have been a high priority for me, but I would still have been fairly pleased had we captured him. And it just goes to show who is out there and who would be more than happy, I'm sure, to come to us, a London club. But the big stumbling block of course is our management set up, especially with a DOF.
I will follow the mariners progress with interest....

Here's what Holloway said before getting the job at Grimsby:
Holloway, working as a pundit on the show, replied: "To tell you the truth, I would love another go at football.

"It would have to be with someone I feel I could work with - and have a chance to improve a wonderful old club.
I think he would have been interested here under different terms and money would not be an issue, but the structure here isn't for him.

Not sure if he would be great anyway although he would say a lot of funny things.

We will never know as we do not seem to be proactive in our search for a new head coach, so who knows who might come cos well never know as well never ask.

Thor wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:48 am From what I've seen I would suggest that wilko is the front man, the point of attack and you play Angol slightly off him. That way Wilko can take all the target stuff, back to goal etc, and Angol feeds off him facing goal.

Wilko has scored more goals, got more assists than Angol, is better suited to the main man role and this allows you free up Angol to utilise his skills and lovely footwork to create goals for himself and others. Whereas now he is expected to do the lot on his own, we are not playing to his strengths in my opinion.
That's interesting because I see it as the exact opposite. Angol wins far more in the air than Wilkinson and puts more of a shift in, battling for 50/50s- see Cambridge away. Wilkinson is skilful and better with the ball at his feet, which is why he has been useful wide right.

Do they even need Angol. According to Sky Sports Grimsby were terrific today after beating Mansfield in Holloways's first game in charge .

No but to sell the striker that was supposed to be the replacement for either Koroma or Bonne would sum us up nicely this season.

I quote @ Chief crazy horse.......''And it just goes to show who is out there and who would be more than happy, I'm sure, to come to us, a London club. But the big stumbling block of course is our management set up, especially with a DOF.''

Well voiced much the same opinions many times on here, as have quite a few others on this forum..........and have been put down for thinking such things by the people who voice the opposite opinion and think that restricting a new manager to having to work with our current coaching and DOF setup would not be any big deal in recruiting a new manager.
Well I think the course time has disproved that theory. From all accounts it has put off quite a few good candidates for the job, oh well, we shall see what pans out. As to Angol, well if he is unhappy here and we make a good profit by selling him, then so be it, no point at all in forcing a player to stop at the club if he is not happy and wants to move on to pastures new .
