As American citizens they are taxed on worldwide earnings (and in this country losses) now I’m not a tax expert, but I’d guess that they will be offsetting the losses against their taxes which I’d guess were considerable in their country.
So they own a football club which losses money and reduce down their tax bill accordingly. Well played both men.

Re: AGM Today
Interesting stuff. The other player must have been Happe or Ekpiteta and as defenders they would be worth less.... perhaps the sum of bids was £1m, which sounds more realistic.
The tax stuff just seems weird to me. If this was the case, then rich people from the US could finance a football club 40% cheaper than others because of this tax shield, and we would get loads of people coming over. I also seem to remember that in the early days of the Italians, Amateur Angelieri insisting that money Beelzebub would be forwarding would be equity and not debt. I suspect it might not be the full story, but it is a quick way out of an uneasy question. No fans like to hear that losses will continue to sit on the clubs books as directors loans.
The money side seems really interesting. Lincoln turned over £4.7m on a average gate of 5,162 in their first year back, I'd assume this would be a good ballpark figure to use. If we're going to lose another £1m on top of that, we might be in for some good signings. To some extent the decks will be cleared this summer and we will be left with a much younger squad.

Re: AGM Today
I’m not doubting their integrity, not on today of all days! Just weird that someone has reported they said they’ve written the loans off when the accounts appear to indicate they haven’t.Thor wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 9:54 pmIf they said they’ve written it off, I’d believe them, I believe they are people of integrity.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 9:22 pm So they say they’ve written the loans off but they actually haven’t?
The debt sits on the books at present or at least it was in the last financial set of accounts. In this trading year they may have chosen to write the debt off, if they did that would show in the next set of accounts and we would need to wait till then to see that action has happened. They may well leave the debt on the books and let it accumulate over several years and never call the debt in. As the club is run at a loss, those losses can be used to offset tax either now or in the future depending on where the club stands from a profitable basis or within a group structure.
Take Man Utd when the Glaziers took them over they did it through debt and let the club pay it back without the family having to use their own cash assets to cover it. We don’t have that advantage unless we were to ever get to the premier when those losses just might come in handy.
Thanks for clarifying the position on bids, AP. I knew 3 x £1m bids just couldn’t be true.
Interesting that they predict we’ll make another £2m loss this season. They really are pumping the money in. Yet some of our fans still refer to Salford as moneybags.

Re: AGM Today
Edinburgh said on BT Sport that he thinks this squad "deserve" a chance in League 2. That said I think we'll only see Grainger, Lawless, Simpson and possibly Lee and Dayton go.
New contracts for Clay, Jobi, Widdowson, Harrold and Brophy and bring in maybe two or three "quality" signings. I believe everyone else is contracted for next season.

Re: AGM Today
Koroma is most likely off, hopefully for a fairly hefty fee. Bonne and Marvin are possibilities for sale as well given that they'll be out of contract at end of next season. Might be off on this one but get the feeling that McAnuff will retire as well.Top of the West. wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 11:17 pm Edinburgh said on BT Sport that he thinks this squad "deserve" a chance in League 2. Assuming that we'll be shifting upwards of 6 players this summer, we'll be in the odd position of going up and having to rebuild. Priorities have to be an actual midfield, new lb, a couple of new strikers depending on how much of our forward line departs, 1-2 new wingers and someone to challenge Brill for no.1.

This, no way we can only be making 2-3 signings. Need two CMs before you even start to replace Lawless and Lee (would be shocked if either are here next season)Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 11:59 pmKoroma is most likely off, hopefully for a fairly hefty fee. Backup LB is a must, can't keep shunting Judd out there.
Winger is interesting depending on what happens with Dayton (sounds like he'll get a contract) and McAnuff (where will he want to play at L2 level and will it be easier or more difficult for him physically going up a level?)
Can't see how Alabi features in L2 when he has barely made the squad in NL so another striker required there. Will Harrold stay for another year in that cameo role he's made his own recently?
As above another senior pro keeper to challenge Brill would also be preferable, although likely we'd save money there if we need more outfield signings.

Re: AGM Today
He won't want to make wholesale changes and despite our summer signings being poor last season he'll keep faith with most but not all of the squad. We shouldn't be looking to sign back ups for any positions we should look to improve on what we have. So if we can retain our sought after players I don't care if it's two three four or five new signings as long as the are capable of improving the starting eleven.
