If Spain split with Catalonia ( unlikely )
Where would Barcelona play hypothetically.

Spain, France , or would they create a New league with the Basque teams ?
Why not in Barcelona?

Afterall Monaco play in Monaco but in the French League

Guernsey & Jersey play on their respective islands but are in the English Pyramid

Berwick, based in England are in the Scottish pyramid
Derry play in the League of Ireland (Republic) not the northern Irish league.

Thor wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2019 10:26 pm It is indeed a hypothetical point I was making so your brain was switched on, just like when I brought a legal potential situation it may well yet face. Leander Schaerlaeckens who is a sports communication lecturer at Marist College and writes for yahoo put out a peice on this very matter and it stated that a change in law would be required to allow the Catalonian clubs to play I in a Spanish league.

It’s called research, try it sometime.

Good article Thory boy.

All Hypothetical again but based on possible actuality rather than fantasy

Dutch journalist says, verbatim:

"But it would apparently require a change in the Spanish laws for Barca to stay in La Liga".

Apparently based on what?

Is that all it takes to sit back with a smug grin and say 'try doing some research sometime'?

PJ if Catalonia was to break from Spain ,
Much would change , 1 possibly being sporting clubs
Being banned from playing in 1 countries league , when they are now part of a different country.

Think back to Zvonamir Bobans kick .

You keep inventing this claim.

The evidence shows it doesn't happen

Berwick, Monaco, Derry, Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, Merthyr, Jersey, Guernsey, FC Isle of Man (from next season) and even in Spain, Andorra play in Spanish League.

There is nothing to support your repeated claim about expulsion of Barcelona after a Catalonian independence

Why keep repeating your made up claim when all evidence shows it's not the case

It's not just me, others have pointed out your inaccurate claim.

If I am wrong, then let's see the evidence that would require Barcelona to be expelled from La Liga.

If Catalonia splits from Madrid Rule
Can Spain still be Spain .

The USSR no longer exists its russia & others
Yugoslavia no longer exists its Serbia & others

Ireland no longer exists .
If London Left England can you say England would exist ?

The point is not about other clubs joining other leagues .

It is where would Barcelona go ?

A Catalan league would not be big enough
However, a catalan / Basque league would be much stronger .
A spanish league minus those 2 component parts would be very weak.

Or perhaps it really will bring about a European super league .

Oh PJ ,
Have you ever read about the bombing at Guernica.?
Or the Spanish Civil war 1936-39 .

The constant threat to Catalonia that what happened in the basque country, would probably happen in Catalonia.

Do read up on your World & European History dear chap .

I studied Spanish history at Uni and more than happy to go into detail about both Republics, the Civil War, and why you're talking absolute mierda (although hold on, you've heard of Guernica and have mentioned it a propos of nothing so maybe you're an expert after all).

Quit while you're behind, you patronising silly billy.

I said :-
" purely Hypothetical in my Original post .
I also stated if Catalonia was to split ( unlikely i know ) "

It was a Simple Question as to where they could end up playing .

No need for Nastiness from so many .

It was a Simple post for Hypothetical Discussion .

Not a Statement of Actuality.

We you just said if Catalonia ceded then the Spanish government would get a foreign power to carpet bomb Barcelona, so yeah, you're the silly billy.

apropos of nothing ?

You asked why i was comparing the break up of countries to other countries

If Catalonia left Spain , would it then still be right to call it spain ?

Im not arguing HMM

I used an example of countries that once exsted that broke up & are now called different names while the original state no longer exists .

The question was simple .
Is Spain still Spain without Catalonia or possibly the basque region .

Would it ( have to ? ) take a new name .

Maybe that makes my question clearer.
