I dont know how Steve Tongue knows that but I have known Steve a long time and all I would say is that he remains a highly erudite journalist and writer and has never been one of the ones prone to make things up.RedO wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 10:04 am How does Steve know this information, that there were a final four and 2 of them said no because they didn't want to work in our set up?
Also, how does someone get to the final stage and only then discover that they're not prepared to work within our set up? That's bonkers.

Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
I hope he is allowed to bring in John Yems, did great for Exeter and Bournemouth on their rise up the divisions. Described to me as ' the most well connected bloke I've ever met in football' by Steve Perryman.
He was let go by Bournemouth last year on the premis they could not afford his 45k salary (reduced from 60k due to hours reduced) I roomed with Yemsy on a management course at a company we both worked for when n he was asst at Dulwich, a top, top guy, great fun but truly has so many contacts he could only benefit our club.

Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
Thats more than possible.
Who knows what will happen when Fletcher strongly disagrees with Ross or Webby on something?
I also think there is a time when Webb will decide he wants a bigger job - as he should.

I feel that the real test of Fletcher's abilities will come when we see what players he lets go and who he can bring in, in both January and the close season. Next season is the critical time for him as to whether he can get us to mount a sustainable promotion challenge.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 11:49 am I hope he is allowed to bring in John Yems, did great for Exeter and Bournemouth on their rise up the divisions. Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
On the blurb for the previous show, it mentions Dan Happe's eyebrows.
Were they discussed?
I didn't even realise they were a thing to anyone else. One of my kidss finds silly eyebrows amusing and was pointing at them and laughing when his profile pic was up on the tv screens at Wembley, so we have often joked about them since. But I didn't realise others did.

Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
Well with 50 applicants whittled down to 6 then two dropped out is how I took it. So he was the best of the final 4 or the best of 50, whatever way you look at it. Seems a fairly routine recruitment process to me.Thor wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 9:43 am Steve said that the final 4 were selected, firstly I do wonder who these 4 were, does anyone have any idea? Then he said that “1 or 2 counted themselves out as they wanted to bring in their own assistants or team”.
So by that comment are we saying we had a choice of two?
Any one else have views on this?

I'm not questioning the process nor the decision just the statement that we ended up with 4 and 2 dropped out cos they couldn't bring in their own staff. Just highlighting what was said as its interesting statement to make.

Just read his story and it seems he got a rough deal. He is right, I started to think perhaps there was more to this story and it wouldn’t surprise me if prospective employers wondered the same, though having read the article in full I would take his word.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 11:49 am I hope he is allowed to bring in John Yems, did great for Exeter and Bournemouth on their rise up the divisions. Tacky from Bournemouth.
Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
Having read up about him, I would definitely be inclined to go with his side of events. I agree, a contract to match CF's could only surely benefit our club, if we are indeed genuine about our future ambitions, 3-5 years or whatever. An initial outlay of £67,500 would seem to me a risk worth taking, when you take into account John Yems record and he does definitely appear to have the contacts. Under our set up, DofF plus a Chief Scout (Steve Foster), could never see it happening, unfortunately.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 11:49 am I hope he is allowed to bring in John Yems, did great for Exeter and Bournemouth on their rise up the divisions. Max I am concerned about your ethical code of conduct in buying a used car which is unroadworthy. It's probably got an emissions problem, leaking oil, the exhaust is flowing fumes excessively into the atmosphere.

If someone thought we could afford to pay off 3 staff so that they could afford to bring in their own then they obviously haven't worked in the lower leagues.

Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
Jimbo I’ve no doubt we could afford to do it, see the players paid off previously to understand we have the desire to do so if that’s the right course of action to take.
Don’t forget one is American and the other is well versed in their culture and paying people off to get rid of them is normal in their course of business. Having worked for Yanks for many years I’ve seen how ruthless they are in business.
Now if we get back to the question of getting rid of the three coaches one would have to assume that is what the club wants, expect it’s the complete opposite of what it set out as an organisational structure when ML took over. It wanted continuity so that if the head coach left for whatever reason then the club philosophy does not have to change, the players have stability to boot and the club functions without too much heavy lifting in finding a new head coach.
What was interesting for me in the show was the fact that it became a straight choice between two people rather than the four who were shortlisted by ML. If that is correct and I don’t doubt the hosts integrity then it opens up further questions on the process undertaken by the club.

Re: Recording of The Orient Hour
Can I just say my suggestion of Yems is an additional member of staff, not at anyone's expense. John would prove invaluable I think. He helped Exeter back up through 2 promotions, the travelling was what made him leave there, no coincidence he's been at Bournemouth from lg1 to the Prem, would be a statement of intent to get him and for 8-900 a week a relative snip.
