Thinking about the long term, better to bring him along slowly and develop him than have him in the team alerting scouts to his potential and lose him for a paltry compensation fee at the end of the season.
Well then persuade him to sign a contract extension.
Right. So you think that will happen if we start playing him and then much bigger clubs start sniffing around and offering him contracts that he can accept. Have you thought this through?
Smeghead you obviously think we should hide him away and not play him? As you say he’s out of contract at he end of this season, but let’s leave him where his is and nobody will know he’s an asset? And then what? Does he sign a new contract at the end of the season or leave and find a club that are willing to play him? Strange!

Bohemians in the Irish league brought on a 14 yr old last night !
I saw them play St Patricks in April and left at half time. One of the worst games of football I’ve ever seen, no wonder a 14 year old can get a game.
I get your point but they hardly played him. He came on with a minute to go.

Smendrick, that’s the most stupid argument I’ve heard on this site, and that takes some doing.
So , we have an outstanding youngster with terrific potential, but according to you we shouldn’t play him, or offer him a decent contract, but we should hide him away in case some scouts see just how good he is and whisk him away.
No, we not only give him a good deal but we play him. You can’t see the forest for the trees.

You could have saved typing out the rest of that nonsense by engaging brain and commenting on what I said instead of what I didn't say.

Irrelevant as they make the same point in different words. I said we should bring him along slowly, not not play him. I've said the same before (see previous Ogie thread for example). I haven't said anywhere we shouldn't play him. You made that up and went off on a tangent based on something you introduced to the discussion.

What, the unchanged post where I say we need to bring him along slowly? Does that say we shouldn't play him too?

I've never said we shouldn't play him. You can go on about this as much as you like but I've never said that. So stop talking crap about things that you have introduced to the discussion.

You know perfectly well what post I am referring to, the one on this subject where you said precisely what I and others have commented on. The 7.0 post which you edited at 9.0. So stop twisting the truth.

In a previous post i said Ogie should have been selected at left back for the home game against Crawley. We had just won away at Mansfield, confidence would have been good and with Widdowson out of the side the timing and need for a natural left back was required. But instead we unbalanced the team and got a home defeat. Weeks on confidence is fragile and supporters frustrated. Do i still think Ogie should be played...Yes!
Lastly if any fans think that playing him will alert Premier or Championship teams, think again. They probably already know what size boots he wears and what his favourite takeaway is. Theres no guarantees that playing him will help the team but if it helps to keep us in division two that will do for me. Why wait to watch him next season in the National league. Then again the agent will want him out the club as he did not play any games. All we will have left to say is...i wonder what OGIE was like?

'Shadrach Ogie'' !! He really does look like the real deal, I picked him out for mention on whatever Leyton Orient forum was in place at the time as one for the future when I first saw him as a 16 year old in a live video broadcast of the Os youngsters 3-1 win against Plymouth Argyle. This game in May 2018, was advertised on Orient twitter and ended in Orient's U18's team being crowned as Merit League Two champions after a 3-1 win at the Matchroom Stadium. His contract runs out the end of this season, we need to get a contract extension for him ASAP.
Surely for a start, at least give him a place on the bench soon and get him on for a run out last 20 or so minutes, I rate him.

That’s the ideal way to introduce him.

Problem is most last 20 minutes are high stakes, with us chasing the game, and that’s tough on a kid.

Agree but IMO, pick the games and bring him in gradually for a start and see how he gets on.

Yes a place on the bench at least but if we are winning and doing well with around 20 minutes or so to go, then dont meddle, just leave things as they are. Ross seems to have put subs on late in the game a few times recently and then things have gone wrong.

The wrong subs in my opinion.

Cyprus U21 - Belarus U21 1 - 1

No goal from Sotiriou today, but he played the whole game.

It will be interesting to see if he is in the squad on Saturday.

On what basis are you suggesting that?

Will he replace MH? Not in my opinion
Will he replace JB? Not in my opinion
Will he replace CW? Not in my opinon
Would he be in front of LA? Not in my opinion

I think at present he is maybe 5th choice, I like him and I think he has a decent chance of progressing and breaking through, but is it today? Probably not, would love it when it happens though.
