Re: SOTIRIOU
Orient didn’t have to meet his contract demands, when he supposedly mugged us off. They obviously thought he was worth the wages at the time. I’m not sure Wellens called his bluff, the finance stuff will be Ling/the board.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:47 pmNot always, the likes of Bonne and Koroma get a warm reception. Sotiriou tried to take the club for mugs not once but multiple times with his contract demands, I'm glad RW called his bluff and let him go.Turk wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 11:23 am When a player leaves Orient we do the same thing men do during a break up, she/he was a sh*t shag anyway, plenty better out there than her/him. Truth of the matter is Sotiriou was a very good player for us and his return of a goal every 4 games is brilliant for a player playing a lot of games either wide or a second striker as well as a fair few from the bench.
Wellens never hid the fact he saw him as an impact player and the lad got offered a much better contract than we could offer so fair fucks to him. I genuinely hope it gets better for him there and the chants of "whats the score to him twice this season left a sour taste in my mouth". Like a single one of those that chanted wouldn't quit their jobs tomorrow for more money elsewhere.
It's so much better having players who can actually hold onto a ball and pass it instead of "bull in a china shop" taking on 4 players and rarely succeeding.

From memory players that have been abused after they have left far outweighs those that have been celebrated.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:47 pmNot always, the likes of Bonne and Koroma get a warm reception. First time Sotiriou delayed signing the contract was down to clarification on his role in the team, not an unreasonable request.

Exactly this. Many of these comments are very ungraceful and uncalled for and you say, like the sort of things that rejected and bitter young men do in putting down their ex girl friends !

Re: SOTIRIOU
He always worked hard, but, if an analysis were undertaken, many of his goals/assists came around contract renewal time (though less so under Wellens)essexfootball wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 10:33 am He is a poor footballer but effective, works hard, steals the odd goal, if you have the space and wages, very handy player to have on the bench
He got a silly offer of higher wages, three year deal with an option of another, be an idiot not to take
By all accounts wanted £6k a week. If Rovers are paying that then they've had their pants pulled down and I stress I liked Ruel overall.
As mentioned, he would struggle to get into the team this season so the move was right for all parties.

The like for like replacement is Kelman, who is... ah yes our top scorer and led the line against Man CityHoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 3:16 pmExactly. Glad we let him go and brought in, er, DJ for example.
Horrible player to watch and tried to mug the club off at each contract renewal. Remember when he refused to turn up to training thinking Peterborough or suchlike were going to come in for him? Good riddance, we move forward.Leger Ritson wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 3:10 pm Why so much vitriol towards the lad from some quarters.?

Re: SOTIRIOU
I always liked Ruel and last season , 11 goals and 7 assists I think, a good return
Good luck to him
This is a hard profession, you’re one bad injury away from nothing. Look at JG & Theo.
Can’t blame Ruel in the slightest, he gave us good service, we got a fee for him yet some still like to rubbish him.
Poor show.

I don’t get it. Came through the ranks. Got a great input last season and made some absolutely magic moments a la Northampton. This contract stuff I’ve never heard of before though.

Yes, when he played for Colchester . I believe he was in the Colchester side who played against us on our last day in the EFL while under the previous regime .Long slender neck wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:03 pmHave we played against Bonne?gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:47 pmNot always, the likes of Bonne and Koroma get a warm reception. Re: SOTIRIOU
The last time Koroma played against us (and possibly the first as well?), he was booed off after diving to try and win a penalty.

Re: SOTIRIOU
I don’t wish him any harm, he did ok for us, I wasn’t unduly sad to see him go as thought he was replaceable, and probably over-rated himself, but it’s no bad thing to have self-confidence/ belief.
Over his O's career he scored one goal every 4.4 games, currently he’s averaging a goal every 7 games for Rovers, but they’ve been struggling (improving since the managerial change) so it’s probably more of a team reflection.

Re: SOTIRIOU
Always quite liked Ruel. His work ethic could never be questioned and he certainly got us the odd goal. Was it Exeter away when he scored a cracker?
He received a decent pay rise to go. I think it was more we wouldn’t rather than couldn’t match it.
We all move on. Good luck to him as long as he doesn’t score against us…

Re: SOTIRIOU
For anyone interested, his performances have perked right up recently - working hard, scoring goals, even leading the line on occasion
He is quote as saying it's due to the new manager (since about Christmas)
I'm a bit wary as I've read on here that he's always been subject to 'spells' of being good and not so good. But in the meantime, great
Shaq has been injured, so hard to know where he's at. Rumour was he didn't want to be at Rovers, but he's never lacked workrate

Re: SOTIRIOU
Ah yes, that's the standard "I'm near a contract renewal / new to prove myself to a new manager" time when he needs to make an impression. Normal service will be resumed once he's in a comfortable position again.east saxon gas wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 2:42 pm For anyone interested, his performances have perked right up recently - working hard, scoring goals, even leading the line on occasion

Re: SOTIRIOU
Ruel will always be a divisive character but I always liked him for the important goals he scored.
I don’t get the vitriol on here for a professional who was offered a large pay rise to ply his trade elsewhere, many on here would do the same, after all it’s a short career.

To be fair they were so bad under the old manage, worst team I've seen at Orient this season, I think anyone would fail to look good, he keeps starting week in week out now
