I don't know why people get so hung up on securing a transfer fee for a player that didn't cost us anything to sign.
If he gets to the end of his contract and he's developed to such an extent that he can move up a league and earn bigger bucks, effectively having outgrown us, then he goes with my blessing. We just have to go out and find another young out of contract player and repeat the process.
Not a sensible argument we’ve developed him and should get a fee for him. If he moves to another club higher up the pyramid and then moves again do you think they would be happy to let him go for nothing? We all know lower league clubs often survive with the help of transfer fees!

The club should've had a replacement sorted for the last 18 months, this was always going to happen at some point, all well run clubs should almost have a price set for every player in the squad and a replacement ready to bring ing

It does happen. I’d guess the majority of our squad have joined us out of contract.
I know if I was a professional footballer - stop sniggering please - I’d be looking to see out my contract and move to another club transfer fee free, to pick up a massive signing on bonus.

He’d barely played for us.

Meant by this point last year, it was clear he was a talent, for some reason thought he had been here longer in my head

For senior pro journeymen fair enough but young players where the club has developed them we need to be making something back on. Those yearly losses aren't paying themselves.

Over the last couple of seasons we have lost Smyth , Vigs , El Miz , Bonne , Ruel , Forde , Archibald , and plenty more. We miss them but they get replaced. It’s disappointing but no big deal. Dan A and Ollie are both out but we aren’t exactly missing them. It’s the nature of the game.

All the same I'd rather we kept Ethan , thanks and made a good go at getting into the play offs. Who knows ,we might even win promotion .

Agreed. I would rather he stayed . But I’m not stressed about it. Players give you their best for a period , move on , and a new player replaces them.

We should put a price tag of at least a million on him to frighten them off
£2 Mill he's an international
Dream on, he's out of contract soon.
We have the extra season option, how much did posh turn down for Hector?

I would rather we lost Ethan in the Summer for nothing and went for the play offs rather than cash in on him now .. We won't achieve anything by selling our best players all the time .
Orient have the option of extending his contract for another year. An option they will take up. He is going nowhere. The reporter does not even know his contract position. He reported previously that we had made a bid of 250k bid for Wimbledon’s Matt stevens which was rubbish

If we have the option of an extra year then we should get as much as we can if he leaves.
I might be wrong but wasn’t El Miz in the same position with Ipswich? He made it known he wanted to stay at Orient, but Ipswich wanted wonga and got a substantial amount by taking up the year option. Did El Miz get a big fat signing on fee - I doubt it.
Makes no sense getting someone on a free transfer and not to see a financial benefit from the development of a player.

This is a key point, along with the fact that he’s playing regularly, enjoying his football in a team that’s going places this season. Unless Nigel is desperate to cash in (can’t be ruled out) you’d be surprised if Ethan himself would be agitating for the move when they (and others) will likely be back for him in the summer anyway

That I think will be the case for Dan Agyei and he falls into that category of good senior pros we've got on a free so if they leave on a free fair do's

The club have often said , that they try and find players with potential to develop and sell on. The time we spend on these players needs to earn the club income . Equally we need to benefit on the pitch from such talent before we let them leave , or the whole thing becomes pointless

There is a big risk for footballers in running their contract down to nothing, especially for one like Dan A where the last two seasons have been injury hit
Sometimes a bird in hand is the best option.
With Galbraith can’t see him moving in the window unless we receive a ridiculous offer. We can action the option for another year at our convenience and he can go in the summer for a decent fee, if that’s what all parties want to do.
Ofcourse, he might fancy championship football with us!

Koroma and Bonne both had very good offers to go in January 2019, but stayed to finish the job and ended up going to the same Clubs for a bit less money at the end of the season.

If we were going nowhere in the league then maybe sell . However we're in a very strong position going for the play offs and a possible promotion . We have to keep our best players at the moment and take this opportunity otherwise what's the point . Players can always leave in the Summer if they wish .

i reckon we keep ethan for the season, push for promotion, of we dont go up we trigger the one year extension and maybe sell him if we get a good bid (£1mil or above). i feel like azeem is his replacement - hes clearly very good and has a very high ceiling if newcastle bayer Leverkusen and villa were all after him a year ago
