We were top when we were forced into the 5-3-2 because of the lack of CM cover (injuries to Clay, Lee and McAnuff at the time). Somehow JE made it work just enough to see us over the line but it didn't earn us the points that put us up there in the first place.

It was never the formation to start a new season with and hopefully tonight throws the shackles off our attacking players. They had to throw caution to the wind and go for it tonight, now let's see that on Saturday. Be bold and go out with intention to win the game with the same high intensity that got 3 goals in 45 minutes tonight.
Shiws tou how smart Ross is then

Saw it wasnt working 3.5 games in & made a change to 433.

Its got f*ck all to do with what a bunch of fans think,
But how staff & players adapt
It hasn't been working since January, well done Ross. It's taken him 7 months to realise.
It worked for the last 3 months of last season under JE & not so good for the 1st month of this season.
3 months we were off.

What's so hard to get your head around? Orient dropped points because they were playing poo poo. Other teams fighting at the top dropped points at the same time, letting Orient off the hook. Lucky.
So we were lucky that they lost, not that they were also poo poo. Ok.
You're thick. I bet you voted brexit as well.
I'm far from it. But ok, if that's the best you can do then it explains why you can't see that what you're saying doesn't make any sense. Not sure what the relevance of your straw man at the end was about either.

Orient drop points from playing poo poo. Salford drop points too by playing poo poo. Orient are lucky that Salford haven't punished Orient's slip up. Genuinely baffled as to why you can't understand that.

It didn't 'work'. JE clung onto it because he didn't want to drop Happe, Ekpiteta or Coulson. They played poorly and were extremely lucky they weren't punished by the teams around them when they dropped points. Ross didn't have his contract terminated after Wembley and then re-employed on the first day of pre-season.

Because you've not considered that the timing is coincidental. It's not like anyone had known what Orient's result would be. Teams also dropped points when Orient picked up points, which you're not considering because that stands out less obviously

Since you brought them up, in Salford's case I'd argue that the number of very late equalisers and winners they scored was unsustainably high and the quantity of points they gained from late goals was lucky, but you don't factor that in either. Your response will probably be "Yeah but Halifax", which misses the point.

It shored up the GA column when we were leaking goals badly around the turn of the year. Pretty much a case of sneaking games 1-0 through set pieces towards the end. We held our nerve when Salford didn't ultimately. That was a measure of JE's influence on the squad seeing them though.

Using it this season as plan A has been bizarre though. Tonight really showed it. Hand was forced to make the switch and it really paid dividends.

Absolutely spot on. Orient were very lucky at times with other teams dropping points at the same time.

What frustrated me last season was exactly that. When they sat back, it encouraged other teams and made it hard. When Orient kept the ball down and played attacking football, they could destroy anybody (within reason). There was a mindset and possibly still is that 'playing attacking football doesn't get you promoted'. If Orient carried on with their good football instead of reverting back to the defensive stuff, they'd have sewn the league up by the end of February.

I said it at the same time last season, with these players, 433 is the formation to play. Hopefully Ross carries it on now.
Funny that. When other teams dropped points we were lucky. When we dropped points though we were not good enough.

What's so hard in admitting that the National League is a really tough league where all clubs can slip up. It's really got chuff all to do with with your theory of 4-3-3. League 2 will be just as unpredictable. There's already some established clubs struggling.

It didnt work ?

What a Fool you are.

We didnt become Champions of the Vanarama & get pr9motion then ?

Oh it was because this this & this.

Give JE credit.

Nope but half a season of moaning about 532 & a while season of moaning at the lack of a decent CM was supposed to mean we blew promotion
according to them.

JE proved them wrong as will Ross ML KT & NT.

From feb 16th which was a.1-0. defeat to maidenhead we were unbeaten
in March & suffered 1 defeat in April to bromley.

Pretty decent for me & not defensive at all
Dave Challinor said " we couldnt live with the way they played as it wasnt just 352
It.was 32221 or 32122 at times .

Come on get your stories straight moans

Agreed with the majority on here. We have some cracking flair players on our books, get as many as feasible into the starting team and play some attacking football.

We don’t have the wing backs to play 5-3-2.

Wing backs dont play in a 5-3-2
Thats 3 central defenders & 2 full backs
3-5-2 is where wing backs come into the game.

But 5-3-2 is the same thing as 3-5-2, you play one way with the ball and one way without.

Unless you’re suggesting we actually sat back with 5 men across the back line at al times. 😂

Nope but it might mean the planks calling for a change of manager after 3 1/2 games pipe down for a while. He needs at least 15 games before you can judge.

Slurs are warranted when you’re acting that way. Tuffers and Lucky show it on a consistent basis.

You were happy to scab it over the line whilst not getting the best out of the team. I knew the team were better than that and could have had the league sewn up in February. Horses for courses.

Happy to scab it over the line because I appreciate how hard it is to win that league. As dozens of other league clubs have found over the years.
He's learning as a Head Coach & he's doing OK.
Following in JE's boots was a hard job for anyone to do. The board & Ling made the best decision in appointing RE because he knows the club, has it in his heart & is the safest pair of hands at this moment to take the club forward.
Shame you're too blinkered to understand that

5-3-2 & 3-2-5 are very different in the.ste up
Do you actually know so little about playing footbball ?

If its the same why are we not just saying we play a formation of 1-10 ?

5-3-2 is set up as a much more defensive option
Players holding back more with an option to break forward
Keeping your opposition restricted coming forward & is telling your opponents
we know your decent but we think we can stop you.

3-5-2 just watch Peps Barcelona or watch ajax vids of the 70s

Explains it in a much better way than words ever could.

There are some who don't seem to be willing to have an open mind on Ross and have prejudged him to be an inadequate appointment that is needlessly soft or sentimental.

Fact is this is his first proper stint as a manager, in pretty dire circumstances as it happens, and he deserves a fair shot at it. Screaming for his head at 3.5 games into a season is pathetic. He may well still fail but his very brief reign has been promising so far.
