Was there any sign on Sunday that JC thought it would be his last home game for us?

I would be happy enough just to keep him for the rest of the season . No way could we keep him permanently , although I would love that . . He cost Oxford over £1million so we've got no chance .

He lived at Pyrles Green Debden. We were in the same class at Hereward School.
His dad was a bus driver his and his brother Alan was a decent goalkeeper
Wow what great memories and did you get to see Dennis play football at your school ?
In the junior school where we won the league, he was centre forward, I played right back.
He ended up as left back and me as right wing.
Lost touch after he went to Davenant school in Whitechapel.
I suppose he was a very good footballer from a young age !

As if no one has mentioned Charlie Daniels on here? Those 2 seasons under Slade in L1 he was comfortably our best ever left back and then went onto play in the prem… madness
Not old enough to have seen Rofe but Daniels definitely the best left back in the past 30 years. Consistently performed for Bournemouth in the Premier League after leaving us.
Lockwood a close second but looked good at a much lower level generally.
Too early to put Currie amongst these but he is a great asset and destined to play at a higher level. Hope we can keep hold of him for the rest of the season.

He didn’t get much of a run for us but Nicky Shorey had a very decent career.

Kevin Dickinson LB should also be spoken off, along with the previously mentioned great LBs we have had over the years.
But talking this season and Currie, if we can keep him for the season, it would be fantastic, as he is a real player, and if he were to be recalled by Oxford, we would really notice it, as he has been one of our top performing players this season.

Where does David Stride fit in to all of this?

He is great, but best ever is really stretching it.
In my lifetime, Lockwood and Daniels are the best I've seen.

My one abiding memory of Shorey is some of our fans booing him because he kept on passing the ball backwards to Lockwood. Sums us up.

Has he?
I like him. He’s growing game by game. But I think you’re letting his recent performance cloud the picture of the whole season.

Slightly different but we signed Boyd on a free the year after Luton paid £500k for him because they’d been relegated, Oxford are by no means safe and relegation would have a massive impact on their finances. Obviously not saying it will happen but wouldn’t disregard it as “no chance” when similar has happened before.
