Sweeney has had a similar journey. Plays well for 2 games, has a bad one and isn’t seen for 3 months. I’m not saying either should be starters but we should have some consistency with them and their development
I think you need to look one level up to make sense of it. Ling wants academy players in the squad and by extension in the shop window to "make money" (never mind the academy running costs he doesn't count those in his calculations seemingly)

Wellens would want as many quality pros as possible in his side to compete with the best in the league so any youth player needs to be bang on it to get a spot. However if the DoF doesn't provide a pro (see LB for case in point) the academy player plays by default.

Very much has the feel that the club wanted Sweeney and Obiero to be first choices but with 4 losses on the spin had to then go out and get replacements. Interestingly Ball came in after Marshall Taylor had said on X the budget was spent for this window.

The worst of both worlds are the Edwards / Perkins esque signings where they're not ready for League 1 football nor will they make us any money.

And I bet they both return at some stage.
I’m sure they will but that wasn’t the point
Take your point about mucking the youth players about. Sure he would have spoken with them first and explained to them what needs to be better.

A good footballer with no pace. Perhaps with age he will gather strength but I ain't seeing it.

Similar was said of Kane when he was on loan with us. If Donley is willing to graft like the former did Spurs are really good at improving players physical attributes (also see Bale)

Harry Kane was 17 when he was here.

Donley is about to turn 20. I like the kid a lot but he's not going to be top level.

From the little we've seen of the pair of them, I rate Obeiro higher.

As Hoover says, Donley is 2-3 years down the line. I think Spurs are more likely to see him as a cash cow, if he can develop, like they did with Tom Carroll. He's unlikely to have enough pace for the PL. Just an opinion though.

Absolutely agree, but be careful Essex, you could be accused of this being a total overreaction and spewing bile.
