Signing unfit players in the hope the get fit at some point is slightly better than signing a player with a broken ankle. Both options are a waste of money we don't have anyway. HTH.
I really cannot understand why the all action Bonne has gone from where he was to where he is now in such a relatively short space of time. Not like he has suffered a bad injury of any sort is it ? I mean as a pro footballer, keeping fit is something you need to do as a top priority isn't it ! Perhaps they lose their enthusiasm and motivation, love of playing etc. Think of Stanley Mathews, kept himself fit and playing till he was 50 years old !
Whether he put on muscle / weight or just matured - he lost a half yard of pace and went from running in behind to playing with his back to goal a lot more. His effectiveness spiralled downwards as a response. I'm not sure at this stage of his career where he gets that pace back from.
Good observation and comment.

Well our usual policy is to bring in free agents to training and see how they go, worked well with Lisbie . Nothing to lose that way

Yes fair comment but also some talk on here of Bonne's wage expectations being too high for the Os when we were in talks with him before ?

Well whatever we pay it’ll be more than his earning sitting at home ! He’s not really in a strong negotiating place . I love the idea of Waghorn equally , but he’s not based in the south

Footballers as well as managers..., through certain circumstances, can sometimes have a streak of red hot form and then quickly go off the boil. Bonne seems to be an extreme example of never recapturing that one good season he had with us, and never will do so again.

He did ok in his first season at Charlton Athletic, good enough to get QPR to pay a very high transfer fee for him.

Other than the other good seasons he's had, you're absolutely right.

He was physically too good for the National League. He was never technically good enough for the Championship. I hope he's made himself financially secure from a couple of big money moves and finds a club and some form.

I seem to recall that ( last year?) when rumours resurfaced about Bonne possibly rejoining the O’s, RW was reported as being rather scathing about what he had to offer the club. 🤔
