Re: Brentford
Hate Brentford. I just think of March 2014 when we bottled it at home in front of sky cameras and lost one nil. That's when I started to realise we wouldn't go up automatically. Then a couple of games we drew. So hopefully, we can smash them in the cup. But March 2014 is still and always will be a sore point. My wife is getting me my pills as I write this ....

established Prem team.l, with brand new stadium
It’s a good draw,, prem team, local and easy to get to, and possibility it will probably be televised as local London derby, with giant killing opportunity.

It is disappointing. Saying we've drawn a Premier league side is sort of dressing it up. It's neither one thing or the other. As the Kube says, be under 10,000 there. Like I've said before we hardly ever get a 'plum' draw. Compare us to what other lower teams got? In fact, it's an awful draw!
Aston v (Wycombe)
Man u (Barnsley)
Leicester (at home) (Walsall)
Newcastle (Wimbledon)
Chelsea (Barrow)
..or a home tie against opposition we could realistically advance into the next round.

Doubt the sub 10k gate in league cup round 3 is gonna make much of a dent in our £4m annual losses.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 7:12 am Perfect draw for the board. They can rub shoulders with their soulless heroes. The game is after the window closes, so the money will be going into Coley’s pocket.
Aren't Brentford basically living what would be our dream? Massively overachieved, built a new ground, financially sustainable and have solidified themselves in the prem without being in hoc to some iffy investors.

Re: Brentford
Classic Hearn to give them the whole east stand that day. Despite the fact we would have almost certainly sold out anyway.Eggski wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 8:50 am Hate Brentford. Personally I think the game will be a sell out. 16278 at home to Gillingham in the same round two years ago. Not sure why we should be any different.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 9:27 am Doubt the sub 10k gate in league cup round 3 is gonna make much of a dent in our £4m annual losses.

It's not a good draw considering what other teams have got, as already mentioned.
A London Derby is all we can say good about it.

Ah, I understand now . Yes , under 10k would be disappointing . I just assumed a London derby at a Premiership club would attract a much bigger crowd than thatChief crazy horse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:53 amIt is disappointing. Re: Brentford
It's not a great draw, but it's not a bad one. Possibly a bit jarring to be there and see up close just how astronomically far our paths have diverged since we went and tore them a new one at Griffin Park in 2013 but easy trip, new ground, Premier League opposition. I'll take it.

Re: Brentford
Be a much fairer “draw” if the lowest positioned club in the EFL choose their opponents and home or away, then next club up and so on.

Let's just hope for a much bigger crowd than 10k and the club can make a bit of money .Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 10:18 am It's not a great draw, but it's not a bad one. Re: Brentford
10K in attendence paying what £10 -12 quid, so £100 k raised, after expences £80k & then half that to £40k, Top 6 & half empty 50,000+ stadia so minimum 25k crowd, you do the math, It's a sh/tty draw.Stan1972 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 9:18 amGiven the chance, we would love to be in, As you say ‘crappy little Brentford’s position’Rubex Kube wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 11:10 pmcoz its crappy little Brentford, be 10k or less at it. Re: Brentford
Exactly. We (Brentford) did only charge £10 adults and kids go free with an adult, that time, but if we do something similar it should be a similar crowd. If either side insist on £20+ for some reason then probably not!Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 9:54 amPersonally I think the game will be a sell out. 16278 at home to Gillingham in the same round two years ago. We meet again, then...
We often underwhelm in these cup games with fringe players, last night the latest example. We might play a stronger team in the next game but I'd imagine it'll be a similar approach.
I'm sure your team and fans will be more up for it than ours will so no reason you shouldn't have at least as good a chance as Gillingham - who beat us on penalties.

We might play a full strength side , we just got away with 7 changes for our narrow win over MMillwall, I for one certainly hope we keep our best players fresh for upcoming games with billionaire owned Stockport & Wrexham than some tinpot sized PL ClubBrentford J wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:16 amExactly.
