He doesn’t cover himself in glory with either goal, the second especially. Gets really lucky with the one through his legs that hits the post.
But the worst clip is the one where he’s hiding behind one of the CB who blocks the shot, turning it round the post. What the f*** is he doing letting the defenders get that deep? He needs to be screaming to get them up.
"He doesn’t cover himself in glory with either goal". No chance with the first goal, not sure what you are expecting.
"Gets really lucky with the one through his legs that hits the post." Would that be the the one that doesn't go through his legs that he deflects on to the post.
Don't mention any of the saves he makes.
A CB blocks a shot and apparently its a goalkeeping error.
Happy to read any criticism that is objective, but something written with such a total bias is not worth a read.

Whoever missed that one on one seems to be taking Ruels place
And many other so called professional forwards do much the same !!
Chipping the oncoming keeper, a skill that needs repetitive coaching to perfect, rather than the boring standard routines many teams do in training.
I remember the 2006 Champions League final Barcelona Vs Arsenal when Thierry Henry made exactly the same mistake ( I think I recall twice ) when he was clean through with just the goalie to beat and he messed up the chances big time !

I honestly think that defenders don’t trust him, hence the chaotic goals we see when Howlers is between the sticks. They make rash and strange decisions because they have no faith that the bloke behind them is going to save anything that isn’t hit directly at him at a moderately slow pace.

We're playing arsenal with a bunch of world class players playing of course the defence are going to drop deep.
The first goal was awful defending from Cooper.
The second, he did well to come out and block the shot as none of the defenders wanted to take control of the situation.
He got lucky with the one that hit the post, but even if that goes in its hardly a mistake when the forward is clean through.

Same as Theo was not playing either, give these players a chance to recover from their long term injuries !
Archibald is still injured, where as Graham is now getting fit for new season. I can understand not playing on Tuesday, but thought he would get some minutes today
Probably taking it very carefully with Graham in his slow recovery to full fitness.
Like I said before Sid you won’t see him play to many games this season

Howes is sh*t, he doesn’t look comfortable in goal in those highlights but he wasn’t at fault for either goal.

Yes you are quite correct and wonder why he was not given a game yesterday, wonder if he was he injured ?
Strange player this George Moncur, featured regularly in his first season at the club and on average played very well in most of the games that he played in. Yet last season did not play that many games. Seems to have a problem in getting fully fit, also looks like he could lose a little weight. Some suggestions that he was getting over Covid last season, also hints that he might have a long term injury. Shame that he is not playing regularly because when he is playing well, he is a really good and skillful midfield player and its not like he is a veteran player with only a few seasons left in him.
Here are the line ups for yesterdays game.
Full-time: Arsenal 2-0 Leyton Orient
Arsenal XI: Hein (Nygaard 70), White (Rosiak 60), Timber (Rekik 46), Heaven (Monlouis 60), Lewis-Skelly (Nichols 60), Partey (Patino 46), Odegaard (Gower 60), Nelson (Nwaneri 60), Vieira (Smith-Rowe 46), Jesus (Salah Oulad-M'hand 60), Nketiah (Sagoe Jr 60).
Orient first-half XI - Howes, James, Simpson, Cooper, Sweeney, Warrington, Brown, Agyei, Galbraith, O'Neill, Kelman.
Orient second-half XI - Howes (Phillips), Cooper, Beckles, Happe, Simpson, Trialist (Pegrum), Pratley, Jaiyesimi, Agyei (Obiero), Trialist, Perkins.

Call me old fashioned but I like my goalkeepers to dive the way the ball is going.
Second one, he’s not even in the goal.

Which saves do you think are worthy of mention?
The lucky one where the ball hits his outside foot, deflects onto the near post, and somehow rolls across the line without going in? The loose ball that he should have easily claimed but only just beats the forward to, lets it squirm under him, then picks up? Or the routing shot basically straight at him that he pushes away to safety when he should have held it?

The defenders should be pushing out. The reason they haven’t is because they don’t have any confidence in their keeper. Howes should be screaming at them to push out.

Clearly the match report does not stack up with the evidence on the highlights video.

The way those saves are described is the equivalent of Dave Victor shouting "and the shot goes JUST wide" meanwhile the opposition are picking the ball up from over by the corner flag

My point is that one would usually expect the match report and the highlights reel to mention/show the same incidents.
The same incidents do feature in both, however the way they have been described is grossly over exaggerated in Howles favour.
I’d have thought everyone would agree with that?
