I wonder who’s ultimately to blame for our snails pace recruitment process.
ABSOLUTELY NOBODY.
Unfortunately we want QUALITY players who fit a certain style. They tend to be wanted by bigger clubs on wages we cannot match. We have to hope our primary targets get overlooked by such clubs before those players agents will think about taking the pay cut.
That’s simply not true. And its insulting to our players that they’re only here because no one else came in for them.
Every day that passes without one of the 4,5 or 6 players that are eventually incoming (we hope) is a day wasted.

What we typically go for is someone with a ‘flaw’ or unproven but we believe we can develop and play at a higher level.

That's an exceptionally weak lineup for a final day dead rubber game, start with the same lineup at Bolton and expect a pasting.
Current players who didn`t start that game: O`Neill, Graham, Happe, Moncur, Sanders, Cooper, Kelman, Perkins, Pigott.
None of which help at GK, LB, CDM and as for Pigott you'd hope he won't make the squad come start of the season either. Much work to be done yet.
Of course. My point was that our current squad is much like it was last season and should be good enough for a mid-table finish. With a few good additions we should be able to aim higher.

Much like it was other than losing our best player and our only half decent goalkeeper.
The current squad would be relegated.

Its not because we are slow off the block but we tend to be shopping up the league and not down it. I'm not saying nobody came in for players that we then signed, but that they had options and waited on them. In some cases we had to wait for other deals to go through before we got our man. Idris last season was a case in point. Ipswich signed Jack Taylor from Peterborough that allowed Idris to go on loan. If we went hell for leather and signed 4, 5 or 6 anybodies then there would have been no budget for Idris. We have waited for the right players and not worried as much about having the numbers in early. Its served us well in our results. How would you solve the issue, given our budget? I think you might be able to come up with a great theory but in practice it would be impractical for the sort of reason this club has been facing such issues for 3 or more seasons.

All very reasonable points, I’m not claiming it’s ann easy process but even Richie has said he wanted to do things quicker this window.

I go back to the fact that the club hold back to save on wages and now perhaps people will believe. We have already missed out on some good signings to clubs like Bristol Rovers, Lincoln,Wycombe and Stevenage, hardly clubs that you would think that can out muscle us in the transfer market imo. I’m wondering if Mr Wellens is regretting his decision to sign a new contract

I thought Richie did to a point regularly, If the club were to say we are waiting for the right type of player there would likely be even more reasons for people to moan.

Well we could've had Mr Kelman back in January and had a better shot at the playoffs for starters

We need a proper replacement for El Miz, we saw how missed he was in the final few games last season. Mind you I'm quite excited by the forward line: Graham, Agyei, O'Neill. Mind you without a replacement for El Miz, we need someone in the midfield to actually get the ball to them.

Galbraith will get the ball to them. We need someone to get the ball back in the first place.

I wonder who’s ultimately to blame for our snails pace recruitment process.
Maybe Lingys coffee machine has broken, seriously though, we still have the majority of last years squad and still have over a month to go until the opening game.
It's going to be a long month of bedwetting on here by certain panic merchants. I'm looking forward to it.

Will you be joining us Max? I don’t see myself as a bedwetter more of a realalist. Yes we have a good manager and I rate Brown,Galbraith and one or two others but I don’t think your get more than half a season out of Dan Hap or Graham and you I’ll be amazed if you see Theo if he signs this season.Kelman won’t get into double figures, and if Ling and his buddies don’t pull there finger out we will be bringing back those two children we had on loan last season. Having said that I still for some strange reason think we still might sign El Miz?

Monkey Boy, I am interested as to why you think we will only get half a season out of Dan Happe & Graham?
The injuries were last year and they are both ready to go again this season, so do you know something everyone else, including RW doesn’t?
I agree with Theo, his injury was a bad one and it’s a wait and see situation.
As for the 2 young kids we had on loan, lessons have been learned by the club and that situation, will hopefully never happen again.
El Miz, I wish I had your optimism, but sadly, he looks Championship bound to either Oxford or Derby.

Several reasons about Dan Hap and Graham, RW doesn’t like to over play his players after injury,Happe for the last 3 seasons has had long term injuries possibly because of the robust position he plays. Graham has had two very bad injuries and I don’t think he’s strong enough or RW won’t take a chance on playing him more regularly. This club never learns it’s lessons you only have to look at Pigott and that goal machine Frank Noble not to mention the kid signed from spuds who never ever played for us but the list goes on unfortunately. You did ask Stan sorry if I differ from you opinion

Always happy to listen to other opinions, be boring if we all agreed!
If RW gets the 5-6 players he wants, then Graham will not be over played like he had to be last season, and his playing time will be managed.
Unfortunately his game time was enforced due to injuries we had in the wide positions.
Who knows if the injury was due to to match game time or just a freak injury that occurred, but I agree Grahams game time should be managed, but when he is match fit, he will be a big player for us again, and I hope we get more than half a season out of Graham.
Dan Happe is back fit and will be ok, and I hope like Graham, we get more than half a season from him, as he’s a quality left footed CB.
Same applies to Dan Agyei, we need him fit all season.
Regarding the 5-6 incoming players, I’ll wait and see who the club brings in before I judge.
But we have signed 2 forwards already, and add 5-6 more, that’s 7-8 new signings.
Positive thinking MB, we hope the new signings will improve the squad, so we can loan out Pigott.

Posts above pretty much sum it up, all depends on this 6 incomings that need to be a) quality and b) signed quickly enough so they get pre season fitness and tactical work done
Graham you'd think would need to be treated a bit like RW did with Smyth, used sparingly and not overplayed. Same for Agyei as he's so vital for us (needs a signing sorted to cover him though)
CB is the one area we're really well sorted for so Happe can be covered, jury is out whether he's just been unlucky the past two seasons or if the knee injury is a weakness that continues to come back.
If we end up with the same level of depth in other areas as we do at CB there's nothing to worry about. However after the January striker farce that's far from guaranteed.
