What's the biggest defeat in an opening WC or Euros game?

It's tournament football.
They're aren't any best ones.

Don't know I can answer that with any certainty because there's 20 mins to go.

One more and I will have won my bet.

After that I'm pouring all my Jerry beers down the sink and torching Mrs Eva Golds VW Passat and going to mein scratcher.

Gunn has had a nightmare for the first and third goals
Probably should have done better for the first but this is harsh. Being beaten by a penalty is a mare?
Spilling the header that led to the scramble for the pen. Really poor letting that one squirm away.

Edit: and should've got to the 5th as well

Don’t know the lad but guessed he was Bryan’s son and indeed he is. Looks like he’s another one who has got to where he is because of his name.

Very poor performance from Scotland.
Rolled over from 1st min
Absolutely smashed by a good German side, who were made to look like a world beating German side.
Gundagorn is top class, but they gave Kloos too much room and they overrun a non existent Scottish midfield.
Then the Germany forwards did the rest.
If I were the Scotland players I wouldn’t even unpack my suitcase.

Hi Max, do you remember the Scottish goalkeeper Frank Haffey ?
I shall never forget the first live football match I ever saw on tv, 15th April 1961 and England had a super team out that day, IMO that team was one of the best that England have ever fielded, they had a young Jimmy Greaves in his best form and the final result was England 9-3 Scotland.
Jimmy Greaves scored a hat-trick, with Johnny Haynes and Bobby Smith scoring two apiece. Of course the Scottish goalkeeper Frank Haffey got most of the blame !!

''Frank Haffey lacked the one quality that goalkeepers always need, namely reliability''
I had often been told by people who should have known better that Rangers = Scotland = blue as distinct from Celtic = Ireland = green, and, as I was young, I almost believed that. That is until the events of April 1961 when Scotland went down 3-9 to England at Wembley – and how the Rangers fans rejoiced ! The goalkeeper, you see, was Celtic’s Frank Haffey and he was a convenient man to blame for it all! They had been hurting for three and a half years and were generally unable to deal with the chants of “Seven past Niven” with reference to the Scottish League Cup final of 1957, and now at last they had their revenge. They could chant “Nine past Haffey” “Haffey Nine” or simply the inane “Haffey! Haffey! Haffey!”. Oh, it must have been great to be a Rangers supporter at Wembley that day !

Nothing much changes. The The Rangers fans still revel in Scotland's misfortunes because of the weird way their collective brains (?) are wired

Then there is the joke to go with it.

Q What time is it?
A Haffey past nine.
