OK, I'll stick my head above the parapet, even if no one else will.
Harry Kane. Yes he showed glimpses of talent but those glimpses are much more easily identified with the power of hindsight.
At the time I don't remember anyone wanting us to sign him on a permanent because he looked so bang average.
It taught me how players need time to properly develop before we can truly judge their worth and why it's the management that see the application on the training ground, that are best placed to predict a where a player is likely to end up.

Was on the pitch 902 minutes for us scoring 5 goals, an average of 1 goal every 2 games, not bad for bang average.

He was playing L1 football adequately at 17 years of age.

I will start: Jay Simpson. Two spells and shaped up well. He had slightly bandy legs.
Wasn’t he the first player in donkeys years to score 20 goals in a season? And in that FB era as well. I’d say he did alright
First ones to spring to mind:
Dean Morgan
Adrian Patula - no idea why I wanted him to do well
20 goals in a season is very creditable, certainly, but I yearned for more. He was a real goal poacher - I wanted a touch of the Messis…
Especially considering that those 20 goals were all before Christmas that season!

Mostly the youth products, like Downer and Echanomi.
Sammy Ayorinde was the one I thought was going to be huge and didn't do it.

Josh Low. Signed as an exciting young prospect but became home-sick before he even kicked a ball.

Thought that Sam Dalby would make more of a name for himself, especially when Leeds signed him.

A lot of the players of that era, at first out of excitement, then desperation.

Danny Hatcher. Had a big write up in the press before our cup game Vs Spurs in early 2000s. Hardly played and when he did he was rubbish.

Wasn't he from Guernsey or something like that and suffered home sickness?
