you’ve said that “ethnic” young people are not willing to fight in this imaginary war of yours. Then within the same post you’ve claimed that “ most youngsters of ‘fighting age ‘ would run away rather than enlist”
If it’s “most youngsters” why did you initially single out “ethnic” youngsters?
Because I listen to what many ethnic youngsters say on the radio TV and in various publications saying they feel more allegiance to the countries where their parents originated from primarily , which to a certain extent is understandable. The important point is the average youngster these days does not have the courage and spirit of the First World War generation, not that it was right to enlist and defend our freedom today.
I can't speak for anyone else, but my kids were born in australia and at 9 and 12 see themselves as australian.
As for courage of the first world war generation, how would you know, it's not until you're thrust into the situation that you really find out how brave you are.
I can understand your kids feeling they are Australian but are part of the Commonwealth. Australian’s played a huge part in both World Wars and no doubt I expect they are being educated about the sacrifices thousands made together with New Zealand. I have read so much on both Wars , the times then were so different. The various battalions that were formed and the camaraderie were often already a ‘team’ . Entire streets and clubs joined up like our own Club heroes fought at the Somme. You are correct, I do not know but I can see that society does not seem as close knit and as patriotic as it was then. Multiculturalism will be one reason for this and it will affect one’s loyalties and where they lie. The internet has made the world ‘smaller’ communication is easier and people are influenced by events in another continent. I don’t think battles like those in the two world wars will occur again anyhow as weapons are far more sophisticated

Doing the actual fighting in a war is for poor people.

Yes , in the Great Wars seemed that way , yet so many well to do higher ranking officers seemed to have been highly honoured with awards for heroics. Surely these cannot be dismissed? In more recent Wars similarly. I think if you substituted’poor’ for o’ordinary folk’ it would work better? I agree that some troops going to fight in WW1 had hardship at home and the War seemed more attractive at the time.

Yes they can.
Charlie Sausage Fingers has got a chest full of shiny badges and, to the best of my knowledge, he's never even done a war.

We are a weak nation mentally. Z generation cannot work out what sex they want to be and could get upset if a Sgt Major did not get their pronouns right. Many young ethnic men have no allegiance to the King and Country. (I have heard young callers phoning up radio stations saying precisely this). We would be fcuked if war broke out. I do not think the Government are that daft not to realise this and that is why they have built our defences on wars than can be controlled from a room and no reliance on weak willed mummy’s boys who cannot iron a shirt, get their own dinner , get upset if a spot pops on their face or have a panic attack if their phone signal goes. That will be one of the biggest setbacks , mobile phone loss anxiety Asni way would they be allowed these in combat. It is truly alarming how pathetic some of our youth have become.
No time to deal with this today.
You're stupid, offensive and wrong. Bye.

I still don’t know who oriam is/was.
Other than the couple dozen or so usernames that I know of in the real life, I genuinely can’t differentiate between the other names on here.

Always been LeighO, ever since the old board. 10 years (ish?). Don’t post much as so many threads get hijacked and descend into petty personal squabbles. HTH.

Petty squabbling is also good practice for when the big squabbles come along. You need to stay sharp.

Back at the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, some of you may have noticed the sudden appearance of armed forces recruitment adverts. These were as a result of military risk assessments, that assessed the likelihood of British armed forces directly engaging with a foreign military power were increasing.
Well, it appears that the target age group are just not interested in joining up. The navy is even having to consider scraping some of its vessels, as it cannot recruit enough people to operate them.
Now, today, we have articles like this one appearing, with military chiefs hinting at conscription (although the MOD then denying it) and saying the public need to get ready to fight and be put on a war footing -
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/jan/24 ... ght-russia
And Tobias Ellwood has been doing the media rounds this morning, also pushing the message.
Depending on your circumstances, and the age of your children/grandchildren, I think it's time to start considering your possible exit options. Also, if defence budgets are to increase, you'd better get used to a lack of public services.
What exit options are there Dunners ? If things turn nuclear we're all dead unless you're in a deep underground bunker . I recently read an article that stated that people like Richard Branson and Mark Zuckerberg had built underground bunkers at their mansions . Unfortunately for people like us the central line tunnels wouldn't be good enough .

I'd settle for just the last one of those pledges . At least life would still go on while living with the woke and the dinghy's still arriving . If we can't stop the nukes then everything stops .

Yeah, part of me is "meh". The US had to do something. This seems like the sort of thing that is intended to be a reaction, whilst minimising the risk of even further escalation. So will probably achieve nothing positive whilst still increasing the risk of escalation.

Probably just as imaginary as the successful Ukrainia offensive where they took on a Russky army armed only with trench shovels.

I'm not convinced there wasn't a time when the Western media were bigging up the offensive when in reality it wasn't going well. In fact I'm sure I read propaganda at the time that said exactly that.
If there is to be a conventional war with the Evil Empire and the Goodies at NATO. Somebody needs to leg it down to Port Talbot and turn the blast furnaces back on.
