Being the Dad of a teenage daughter who had very little interest in playing football before the Euro's I'm glad she won. The lioness have inspired my daughter and god knows how many others to play.
For those who moan about the standard compared to Men's football. It's probably 30 years behind in terms of infrastructure. Most of the girls have only had access to proper coaching when they start secondary schools whereas boys get its as soon as they can walk, meaning they're 6 or 7 years behind in terms of development. They end up playing on the worst pitches, with the worst facilities and if a club is short of referees it's normally the girls games that'll end up being pulled or having someone whose not properly qualified.
So maybe do your research before you make comments about the standard.
Personally I think the standard will improve dramatically over the next 10 years with the correct investment.

Does this mean that Man Utd can now claim to have won a trophy this season?

Absolute mockery. I said to my partner, a few weeks ago, it will be a disabled winner or a woman. Not hard to work that out.
No doubt in a few years time no one will remember this woman. Political correctness gone made
The fact you think a woman winning something is "PC gone made" (sic) doesn't reflect upon you very well.

The “standard” isn’t simply about infrastructure. It’s about recognising sporting excellence in women according to what excellence means for female people. The infrastructure won’t mean women are suddenly as physically powerful or as fast as men.
To truly recognise the value of women’s football, requires recognising and celebrating the ways in which it differs from the male version. It’s OK to recognise that the women’s game will always be slower, and that the physical aspect will not be the same as the men’s. If we stop seeing society with male as default, then those facts don’t have to be detrimental to appreciating the women’s game

Phil the Power overlooked (again) in the year he retired, now that's what I call a winner.
Seems a rather strange choice this year, relative unknown runner up in a team that failed to make the upcoming Olympics.
KJT would have been a much more deserved winner, very strange voting choices.
Power is a total legend of the sport, and I don't even follow Darts.
Being the BBC, probably being a white middle-aged male sent him to the bottom of the pile. See also Ronnie O'Sullivan

It's because, in my opinion, she won it because she's a woman, and not because she really merited it
You may disagree, but that is my view.
How on earth can she won it when you look at a list of people who didn't even get nominated.
Can you imagine the flak, the BBC would have got if they had nominated 8 white males?
It's a modern day equivalent of years ago, when they used to put a black person in a programme, just to show the world they weren't racist.
Became known as a token black ( a horrible term I think)
On merit, Earp's falls well short of the award IMO

You realise she’s a goalkeeper, and not just a random woman? And that she played in a World Cup final, was the best goalkeeper at the World Cup, and off the pitch took a massive sportswear company to task for dismissing the idea that any young girls would see her as a role model?

How condensing are you?
If course I know who she is
Incidentally she never won the world cup..... She let a goal in, the only goal of the match, which lost her side the world cup, but all of that makes not much difference. There are others, who deserve the award far more than her.
That's my beef, and only that

That’s weird, I can see this post, where you ridicule the idea that a World Cup finalist and winner of the award for best goalkeeper at said World Cup deserved an award for her efforts, but for some reason I’m having trouble finding your post on this thread where you took issue with the suggestion that Peter Shilton deserved the award, despite getting out jumped by a dwarf in 1986, and getting nowhere near any of the penalties in the semi final of our best chance to win the World Cup.
Can you point me to what you replied, because I’m sure your response was savage, and not at all condensing

Which is exactly why it should have gone to KJT .
Maybe they weren't ready for a Black Female Athlete From Liverpool to win.

I mean, I wouldn’t have taken issue had the award gone to KJT. The exact outcome isn’t really the issue; more the weird aversion to the highly successful woman being recognised instead of men

My point of a "Fix " is the overlooking of the best sporting achievement this year was by a Black woman from Liverpool & was ignored (3rd place) by an audience of millions, because of the bbc's promotion of womens football to to its predominatly white audience ( the general public) & not so called lesser sports.
