I'd take a wild stab that he's an Orient youngster.
I've never seen his name in any of our U18 match reports and a google search doesn't turn up anything about a Vernal turning out for anyone else's either.

Could be one of the new intake of apprentices. I know they don't call them that now but I'm old skool 😂

Looking on Twitter the trialist seems to be Moses Makasi, supposedly a physical midfielder.

I know that in an apologist world people seem to think that because a signing comes late we have traded a rushed signing a week ago for a better signing this week, but it could be a possibility the inverse could be true as well. It does seem to me if there is to be a signing it won't be a big one but a cheap one in the mould of Michael Chambers or this Makasi guy.

Friendlies are not about results but there have been concerning aspects in the last three performances. The side out last night was stronger than expected, with only three players out of the 11 not expected to be challenging for a first team spot (Marfo/Vernal/Shabani) and they should have beaten a side who are about as good as Harlow.

Not a pants shitter but I think Ross needs to be backed in the transfer market with some cash.

Of the team posted on twitter Dean Brill is the only one who would be a definite starter.
I'd expect to see Alabi, Gorman & Harrold on the bench. All of the others, (I don't know the trialist) are ones for the future.
Have seen the chief scout's tweet today that the defence was made up of 2 16 year olds & 2 17 year olds.

Shame, a win at Canvey would have provided a feelgood factor.

I’ve got to say it would be difficult to get an accurate assessment of any trialist who was pitched into a makeshift team comprising largely of 16/17 year olds! That said if the trialist was Moses Makasi then, frankly he hasn’t pulled up any trees so far in his career, so would be a likely 4th or even 5th central midfielder behind Clay / Wright/ Gorman and McAnuff when fit. Not inspiring.

I'm not sure what people are expecting from any midfielder that may come in. We have our first choice two, as well as one fit back up and another who is probably our best player when fit. Of course he will be likely 4th choice, which means it probably will be rather uninspiring.

Should be someone to push Clay for his starting spot as the more combative of the CM pair. Someone with a bit of physical presence. If Clay is out we're seriously short of options for someone who can actually put a tackle in.

Like any signing, I would be hoping that any midfielder that may come in would be an improvement on what we have available and would be someone to drive the club forward. I’m not particularly enthused by signings that are brought in to pad out the squad ( even though necessary on occasion). You may feel differently to that but I suspect it only adds to the slightly edgy feeling that we are a bit light in some areas going into the new season.

We would all like better players, even Man City- I'm just saying what I believe will be the case. Clay and Wright will be first choice, so anyone else who comes in will be 3rd, 4th or 5th choice.

Like yourself I would imagine that Clay & Wright will be first choice pairing. Gorman has done little so far to suggest he can dislodge either of them and it’s highly doubtful McAnuff will be anything other than a bit part player given age/ fitness/ coaching responsibilities. Seems to me that any additional midfielder brought in who is halfway decent should be capable of at least pressing for a starting role. Bringing in an additional body on the basis that they are likely to be 4th or 5th choice doesn’t make a huge amount of sense imho.
