If the lack of a decent goal scorer this season means we are relegated, it would be false economy. Sometimes, you just have to put your hand in your pocket.
2 weeks ago, the day after i paid £159 for a tv license, my clutch 'went', and i had to forkout, £456 for that. As i said, sometimes we have to put our hand in our pocket

This signing would make my day, week, month, season!
Sorry but yes I am one of those who has been championing the signing of Luke Armstrong
all pre-season, hoping, wishing he would become an Orient player.
He is exactly what we need, but he will cost money, so I suppose that’s Orient out of the running
I know it won’t happen as RW has already said we will be dipping into the loan market for a No.9 in a few days, but if only it was a bluff and it is Luke Armstrong
Anyone posting after sending this to say if won’t happen, I know, but let me dream
for a few mins, and have my moment
If we did sign Armstrong and he turns out to be utterly pants then what ?
You take that risk with any new signing.

IMO he wouldn’t be pants!
You could say that about any player we sign, but I think the point you are trying to make here is, correct me if I’m wrong, is if we gambled and actually paid a fee, which is what we don’t do, and he tuned out to be pants, then what do we do, after blowing the budget, is that you’re point?
If it is, its the chance you take, if it doesn’t work, you move the player on and go again.
But he is a goalscorer and would score goals and improve our team, and in doing so his value will double, tripple, and we would have a top player on our hands.
We all know we won’t pay a fee, so it’s all hypothetical.
Fully agree with what you say.

Very much agree with that,it’s interesting that Wellens has basically over loaded the team with central midfielders when for many seasons we hardly had one good one let alone 6. Strangely he seems(which is common nowadays) to favour a 433 system which means you have 3 midfielders on the bench. Surly if your strength is in midfield which presumably it is ?then shouldn’t you choose a formation that incorporates that that strength

Perhaps because RW was a midfielder, himself perhaps he bases his formations and tactics on possession football mainly involving overloading the midfield area of the pitch. Also I think he favours more like a fluid 4-2-3-1 System ? So many systems nowadays its a job to understand them all and sometimes seems like the players don't fully understand them either ! For the standard of players that Os have, I prefer the old fashioned 4-4-2, its a balanced formation and easy for the players to understand their roles in. I am not keen on playing just one man on his own up front, prefer having a target man type of player leading the line with a goal scoring player playing off him ( a position that used to be called an inside forward ! ) Good example of that was the Spurs forward duo of Bobby Smith and Jimmy Greaves, Alan Gilzean later on replacing Bobby Smith thus the famous paring of Gilzean and Greaves !

Yes Sid, that's why Sotiriou would be best suited in this formation. It's a bit ironic to me actually that some on here have written him off already when we presently have such a big problem with our goalscoring. Give Ruel a clear chance on goal and it's usually thumped home powerfully into the back of the net - no messing. I'm not necessarily saying he's the answer to our shot shy attack, just a bit ironic, that's all.

Just can’t see us using 442 anytime soon as at the moment it’s regarded by many as old fashioned
but if we did, that would leave possibly 4 central midfielders on the bench and I really can’t see that happening? Your point about Wellens Sid makes sense in a way being an ex midfielder

We haven't overloaded the team with central midfielders, we've just got better quality than we've ever had. We still have 6 players for 3 positions.

Last season we did not score many goals and relied heavily on our strong defence to win us points. Our top goal scorer was Paul Smyth with just ten goals ( he has left the club now ) Ruel Sotiriou and George Moncur were joint second goal scorers with 9 goals each but Moncurs goal tally included goals scored from penalties whereas Ruel's goals were scored from open play. So some on here are even suggesting that after just one game, Ruel, our second highest goal scorer from last season should have been put out on loan before this season had even started, well work that one out !!

Yeah, I think that pretty much guarantees he won't be joining Orient . I don't think we was interested in Catweazle anyway .

I agree on this. Ruel can appear quite an untidy player and probably needs coaching around that, but, he's effective, and that's harder to coach.
Deserves a chance in L1 for sure.

One thing is for sure and that is Ruel is working his socks off at the moment. He deserved his two goals at Wycombe and along with the rest of the team he had a great game last Saturday. Of course the hard part for Ruel and the rest of the team will be keeping that level of performance going.
