IMO I don't think you see, or hear, as much racism at Premier/Football League matches now as it is high profile and there are a lot of people willing to highlight it via social media, as we saw last season.

However, I do feel that there is more at grassroots level. My sons U13 team contains a lot of black players and the verbal abuse that they have received from opposing kids in their last 2 games has been like a return to the 70s.

And I see that Esteban is back as Buckingham.

You’re right about the high profile nature of reporting incidents. Nowadays people get battered on social media (the Chelsea fan shouting at Sterling comes to mind).

Really shocked to hear about the U13 stuff. Of all people I thought youngsters would be the least likely culprits of this kind of behaviour.

In one way, the rise in reported incidents could be used to show that Kick It Out are doing a good job. The fact that people are more willing to report it shows that their campaign works.

the BBC are running a story that there is a rise in REPORTED racist incidents, not a rise in racism at football
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49089209

The Guardian are reporting a similar story - indeed its even stated in the page URL that it is reports of racism that have risen
Troy Townsend, Kick It Out’s development officer, was speaking on the day that the anti-discrimination organisation released figures which showed reports of discrimination across all levels of football rose by a third last season, from 319 in the previous year to 422.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... out-racism

similar stories are in the Telegraph and most other media sources - ie referring to a rise in REPORTED incidents

So it would seem that what I said in the opening post is what is said by most of the media and indeed also by Kick it Out

When one goes to the Home Page of Kick it Out, they headline the link to the story by saying Discrimination Reports Rise by a third - not that discrimination is rising
https://www.kickitout.org/

Sadly rather than accept the fact the opening post misleading reported the story, we have gone down a familiar thread of personal attack on me by Esteban and are not debating the real issue of what can be done to help stop discrimination

Compared to when (and are we talking in UK or worldwide)? I can't recall many racist incidents involving throwing of bananas in the UK in a long long time.

The relatively incident at the Arsenal v Spurs game when a banana was thrown at a black player was a red herring as the person throwing the item was also black and as a result it wasn't prosecuted as a racist offence.

[Doesn't detract from the fact that something shouldn't have been thrown at a player in any event & is a criminal offence]

Just to remind everybody, Spen was banned for coming on a Leyton Orient message board days after Justin had passed to start puerile arguments with other boarders.

Behaviour like that is unforgivable and I have no idea why the mods let him back.

Every time he posts I’m going to remind other boarders of the kind of person he is. I refuse to let him brush it under the carpet. The disrespect he showed to Justin is disgusting

Buckingham,

I do not know you. I have no idea who you are or if you have personality problems, but you were previously warned several times and then banned as Esteban.

Now you come on here in a different guise and continue to launch personal attacks and have now spread your hatred of me across 3 threads, ironically calling for me to be banned but trying to pretend you were not given a previous ban for your conduct towards me.

In this thread, you misreported what Kick it Out 's report says by claiming it was a rise in racist incidents when Kick it Out say it is a rise in REPORTED incidents. An easily corrected mistake. But instead you want to launch personal attacks and harass me rather than debate the issues about what can be done to reduce/ eradicate racism in football.

It is not helping anyone on here for you to continue personal vendettas and ruin thread after thread with your personal attacks. If you want to launch personal attacks on me, then why not start a separate thread and keep all your abuse there and stop ruining other threads eg the one about Macclesfield away tickets

As Prestige Worldwide says "pack It In". i have no desire to continually respond to your abusive attacks on me.

I would like to be able to discuss issues, not continually defend myself from your personal attacks. attacks which are rather strange as you have never met me, never spoken to me and know very little about me

Spen came one a Leyton Orient message board to start arguments with boarders days after Justin died.

Such disrespect. Unforgivable.

Does it include non-white on white abuse? I bet it doesn't cos I reckon the percentage would be double that. I say that because as a former foster parent my wife and I were told by social services that non-whites cannot be considered as racist. Also does it include non-white on non-white, which is quite prominent especially between the Asian community.

The various sources I've seen (listed below) don't really answer your question. I can't imagine that non-white on white would be intentionally excluded, but without a more detailed explanation of Kick It Outs methodology its hard to tell.

He wasn’t black. He was Cypriot. Magistrates decided there was a racial element: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/ ... nal-player But you know best.

Thanks for the link. But there really isn't any point in arguing with that guy. He's just a nuisance will argue for the sake of it. Remember, he was the guy who came on this message board days after Justin passed just to row with other boarders over nothing. Even doing it on Justin memorial threads, if i remember correctly.

All very reasonable apart from quoting Lester as the voice of reason. You lost me after that.
