SheffieldO wrote: Thu Apr 20, 2023 1:31 pm Here are the lyrics for anyone that cares to join with the likely supporter involvement with this on Saturday...someone clever will probably be able to make them more specific to Orient

Heading down south to the land of the pines
I'm thumbing my way into North Carolina
Staring up the road and pray to God I see headlights
I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Picking me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a-hopin' for Raleigh, I can see my baby tonight

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

Running from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old time string band
My baby plays a guitar, I pick a banjo now
Oh, north country winters keep a-getting me down
Lost my money playing poker so I had to leave town
But I ain't turning back to living that old life no more

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly had a nice long toke
But he's a-heading west from the Cumberland gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee
I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby calling my name and I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh at least I will die free

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Oh, rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey, hey momma rock me

Oh, so rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel (I wanna feel)
Hey, hey momma rock me (momma rock me, momma rock me)
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
(I wanna rock like a south bound train)
Hey momma rock me
Rock me
Sounds absolutely horrendous…
Count me in.

Hey, it also got voted Ireland's all-time favourite country song, so who's to say Aaron Drinan or Shad Ogie didn't introduce it to the dressing room?

Here's the original version. Some country purists don't like it because of the geographical inaccuracy - Johnson City is east of the Cumberland Gap. Great tune !

Ritchie said on the EFL Podcast that it was Monks who introduced it together with a couple of other religious ones.

He also said the prayer group is up to about 12 now

Absolutely not the original version.

It is really, I love Bob Dylan and clearly deserves 50/50 copyright but the original song as popularised is OCMS. Bob Dylan apparently claimed he didn't write it either but although he's lifted plenty of others work in his time that's just him being Bob Dylan.

Its organic. The players were singing it. There’s a connection to a historic moment in Orient history.

I’m fully behind it.
There is no connection whatsoever, it's total crap will never be sung by the crowd
F88k it. I'm going to stand up and sing it in the TJS on Saturday just to prove you wrong (again). :D

Im not looking forward to my face being in so much discomfort from the amount of cringing it will be doing when this is being tunelessly belted out.

Touch and go whether this adds something or kills the vibe tomorrow

What am I missing here? I have no special love for the song, in fact it somehow seems to have escaped me all these years, but it doesn't strike me as bad enough to warrant this reaction.

Did you not actually watch the video of the players who won promotion singing it in the dressing room?

Yes I did , it's efing rubbish, what's more I can play the violin a dam site better than this rubbish being belted out

Clearly a lot of people not embracing this particular song so here's the lyrics of the other song that Richie says always gets played.
I'm saying nothing!

Come on it’s infectious. The club are going to play this just before the start on Saturday. The words are simple and the crowd should sing along with the team.

I once went to see Kris Kristofferson against my will and therefore I know a bit about country music. Enough probably to pass an opinion on this wagon wheels song.

It's not very good is it.

Surely a wagon wheel, much like any other wheel, would roll rather than rock?

This simply doesn't make any sense. Darius Rucker? More like Daft F*cker.

We've just been promoted and all is well with the world so people have to find someone else to get worked up about asap.

Ah, I see. In that case, this is an outrage and is yet another example of how this country is going to hell in a handcart. FFS Corbyn!

Nice short one syllable words in the chorus, could become the most unlikely of fan chants... I like it
