The three London evening papers carried classified editions on Saturdays.
The Evening Star ceased publication in 1960. The Evening News was incorporated into the Evening Standard in 1980.

Spot on Forty Niner, I used to work on the Evening News and Standard,
During weekdays the first Edition of the News hit the streets soon after 9am and printed about 6 Editions during the day, Saturdays about 4, Horse racing was main editions in day, Later were all about football, cricket, rugby, golf, you name they printed it.

The fun of trying to buy the local "Green or Pinkun" whilst traveling back from away games via train, when train stopped at station the dash to paper stand and trying to get a copy then working out which team had better goal average then unlike goal difference now

I forgot to mention, that in 1966 when I first started going to Football, Arsenal were considered very old-fashioned. No pre-match pop music - Just the Met Police Brass Band and a Mr Plod crooner. My step-dad loved it, but my peers were very sneering. Still I bet it helped the Old Bill with their undercover work. Always a lot of old lags amongst the Arsenal fans.
