It was a pre season friendly, like all the other pre season friendlies it's about fitness and being ready for August 3rd. In all my years of watching football I have probably see two decent friendlies. You can't read anything into a game where we change the whole starting eleven in the second half.
But the happy clappies said we were gonna win the league and that Alabi was on fire and a player reborn after Harlow.... surely some mistakeTop of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 10:00 pmIt was a pre season friendly, like all the other pre season friendlies it's about fitness and being ready for August 3rd. Think he's going to a shrew signing and I'm hoping that he and Wilkinson can form a good partnership.eagwgw wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 10:55 pm Lee Angol is 50/1 to be top scorer at Betvictor and Betfred.
I'm having some of that, each way. Reckon he could become a new Bonne for us, being very reliant on him for goals.
He might even get the penalties as well.
20 goals should be enough to be top 4, with penalties and free kicks he could be close.
Go on Facebook, you'll see a whole new world and yes there were predictions of winning the league based on that gameTop of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:01 pm Did they? Are these "Happy Clappies" basically anyone who is slightly more optimistic than your posts picking holes in anything and everything? I do recall seeing the excitement of one or two seeing Alabi score against a level 4 team which went to some peoples head but I haven't seen anyone getting over excited about beating Harlow and I haven't seen anyone at all predicting we will win the league based on that or anything else so far. Anyone who reads anything at all into what are basically no more than fitness exercises is being deluded.
As fitness levels improve within the squad Embleton's starting eleven will emerge and will probably play at least 45 mins against Norwich till then not worth trying to over analyze performances when we are playing 22 players in a game and helping to get minutes into players legs.
To be fair last season we relied heavily on a core group of players who managed to complete nearly the whole season. The same applies now. We are trusting to luck big time. Absences of key players in midfield and up front could hit us hard.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:06 pmGo on Facebook, you'll see a whole new world and yes there were predictions of winning the league based on that gameTop of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:01 pm Did they? Angol looks a good signing but the squad depth is non-existent it seems.
Just like they could to any clubdOh Nut wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:11 pmTo be fair last season we relied heavily on a core group of players who managed to complete nearly the whole season. And we still have Alabi, remember!Top of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:25 pm If you take what most people write on facebook seriously I'd question your judgement tbh, I saw no one on this board, even the most optimistic of posters predicting we would win the league based on that friendly result.
At the moment we are no weaker in the goalkeeping department, No weaker in defence, possibly a man light in wide areas and possibly a "fox in the box" striker with a bit of pace wouldn't go amiss, but squad depth isn't much different to last season and that squad was good enough to win the league and get to the FA trophy final despite some on here wanting to pull out of or throw games in that competition because "the squad isn't big enough to cope and we will get injuries".
We have still time to bring in one or two if we can get the right ones, if not a chance for Shabani, Kyprianou and Sotiriouto step up in the same way the Happe, Koroma and Judd have done in the past.
Being ‘no weaker’ isn’t great when you’ve gone up a division, is it.Top of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:25 pm If you take what most people write on facebook seriously I'd question your judgement tbh, I saw no one on this board, even the most optimistic of posters predicting we would win the league based on that friendly result.

This.Beradogs wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 6:56 am As we are not around the training ground every day nobody here can really comment on how good the youngsters are. All I would say is that I presume they are decent and that is why we have not bought one or two more players in. Good players. I assume the management know what they are doing. They have not anyone down so far. If on the other hand, it’s more in hope than expectation and Ling etc think the squad of senior pros is strong enough to get at least a play off spot then in my humble opinion. They are mistaken. Aside from the defence we are weak and we will struggle this year.
We have a lot of fans who don't do patience - the old ones probably as they want to see Orient at a higher level and are running out of time to see it. Trouble is they tend to have an entitled approach to how the club should be run. They see other teams sign several players and want us to do the same instead of deviating from the plan that we clearly have.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 8:15 am Then players like Alabi, Harold, Gorman, Dayton, will be out of contract and some will be replaced for better players. Continual improvement. A cycle that will be repeated until we have a promotion capable team without spending too much money. With the kids coming along too things don’t look too bad.
Sure we have weaknesses but I guess we need patience. We are ahead of the plan
