Well, presumably if the members of the various unions actually vote for a series of strikes, and those votes satisfy the draconian rules imposed upon them in terms of turnout and majority, then I'd suggest that a general strike would have as much democratic legitimacy as a General Election 3 years ago. More, perhaps, given that those voting for and taking such action would also be giving up their pay for the strike periods, as opposed to just ticking a box.Type high wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 7:57 pmSo once again when the polls don't go your way, rebel. Democracy providing it suits you an, anarchist.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 2:12 pm I would support any action that would result in the corrupt Tories being forced out of Government and the whole of the working class strikers being given the necessary above inflation pay awards to keep their heads above water and protect their terms and conditions.

The tories might have set a low bar but there's no evidence to suggest that Labour would be any better. I expect them to govern next on the basis that the can't do any worse but should they fail to do substantially better then that could spell the end for the party as we know it.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 6:23 pm Even though Sir Kier may not be your ideal, his Labour party are just miles better than the Tories.

A general strike is about work, employment and working conditions. A general Election is about which party do we think can govern us the better, if we change our minds the electorate can vote them out of office at the next general election which is the democratic processStillSpike wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 8:25 pmWell, presumably if the members of the various unions actually vote for a series of strikes, and those votes satisfy the draconian rules imposed upon them in terms of turnout and majority, then I'd suggest that a general strike would have as much democratic legitimacy as a General Election 3 years ago. toppling a democratically elected government via a general strike is not democratic, something the socialists just can't seem to get their heads around

'Toppling' by asking for another General Election? It's hardly storming the Houses of Parliament and installing Ash Sarkar as Leader in a coup d'etat.

The slippery slope to anarchy, there is no need, as general elections come around about every 5 years, according to our democracy, something you want to destroy and set up your own dictatorship
