Ling can't take the pressure that comes with making decisions; Embleton would have to be a fool to be a patsy - in exactly the same way that he'd be a fool not to listen to advice given. However he will be his own man - and he would have learned from JE in this regard.
I don't believe you have experienced a depressive illness. It doesn't necessarily come for making decisions, big or small. Its normally comes about as a result of a build up of stress normally generated by the person themselves. That is why psychiatrists and therapists concentrate on getting the patient to 'be kind to yourself.'

Nor me you, Red. Are you suggesting that Ling was making team management decisions on a day to day basis when JE was manager?
No I am not. I am questioning why you think that Martin Ling 'can't take the pressure that comes with making decisions'? Would you like to explain that statement in greater detail?
As you well know its in the context of managing a football team. Thats what this thread is about. On at least 2 occasions (Exeter and Swindon) Ling has had to walk away from the responsibilities of day to day team management. The details of the issues are in the public domain. He's clever enough to steer clear of becoming involved IMO; Nigel Travis and Matt Porter are smart enough to keep him away from it.

Now I've taken the time to explain further, would you care to elaborate on your reasoning?
I was not commenting on the question posed in the thread's original post, just on your post regarding Martin Ling not being able to handle pressure.

Look at this photo carefully. You may notice a large heat lamp in the background, just the thing that a lizard would need to survive in the climate of Leyton.

Ling makes day to day decisions and with this comes pressures. But he has made it clear he will no longer become a team manager or coach. That role is firmly with RE.

However, he is in a position of influence, an experienced man working alongside, and the boss of, RE. I have absolutely no doubt Ross will seek his advice and be influenced by what ML says. RE will also seek the opinions of senior players like McAnuff and Coulson in the captain/coaching roles. But the final say will be his and he will succeed or fail based on what he does, not others.

Without knowing him I cannot form an opinion about whether he is strong enough to do what he thinks is right or take the soft option and go along with the majority view when it differs from his own.

I reckon Ross and Danny will be given every chance assume the Responsibilities that Justin had. ML is there if they want him.
If it doesn’t work out for the interim management team then a new broom sweeps in !
