Apple, you're probably a nice enough guy in real life, but on this Board you come over as an SEN student with a huge inferiority complex.
Nice.

yeah...........the Met can really take the moral high ground can't they, especially if race involved.
Didn't know the Met came out as far as Lakeside, Surely that's Essex Police area.

But I do believe the athlete pertaining to this thread was stopped by the Met. I used the Lakeside analogy to show that Police Forces find alleged mobile phone usage as a good excuse to stop people. God! There are a lot of pedants who use this message board. Methinks Ms Truss might be right about British workers!

It’s easy to see the opposing views on here – Dos Santos is either a Jack-the-lad chancer who thinks he’s above police requests to pull over and stop and that it doesn’t apply to him, or he is a victim of over-zealous, racially motivated policing (and that’s being generous) who was only looking to protect himself by stopping on a better lit and more public road. I wasn’t there so I can’t inform the subject except to say that my neighbour is a criminal barrister – the criminal bit being that he is black. And married to a white woman.
He is very successful and drives an expensive car but has been stopped by police in East London numerous times for reasons, which according to him, are spurious and entirely related, he strongly believes, to his ethnicity. His wife, driving the same car in more or less the same areas has never been stopped by the police. I asked him if he’s made any formal complaints and he said he’s simply too busy to get caught up in processes in which he has no confidence.
I hated taking the knee when it was first introduced at football matches because I bought into the anti-Black Lives Matter rhetoric and couldn’t understand why a U.S. cop who unlawfully killed George Floyd thousands of miles away sent Britain stark, staring bonkers. And yet in genteel East Sussex (with thanks to Richard Littlejohn), British cops tasered and pepper-sprayed a one-legged 93-year-old man in a wheelchair who subsequently died and there was barely a peep. No riots, no angry condemnation, nothing. After brief news coverage on day one, the story disappeared.
I believe we still have a problem with racism - institutionalised or otherwise and I will continue to applaud taking the knee for as long as it goes on
