So players can run around okay, but I can't sit quietly in the shaded stand to watch. Lets hope its not hot when the proper season starts. Perhaps the World Cup in Qatar will be behind closed doors.
How you getting to the ground?
The same way as many who went to work today. I can understand the decision, but as I said global warming is here to stay. It sets a precedence going forwards. Are we setting a maximum temperature for attendances. Warmer countries cope in much higher temperatures, as we will need to going forwards. Not seen beaches closed where people sit in the sun deliberately. People were free to stay at home if they wanted to, no one was being forced to attend.
A beach doesn't require a great deal of staffing.

There is County cricket at the Oval and Lords tomorrow and spectators can attend.

"With highs of 40C expected, the decision was made following advice from the Met Office for people to only travel if absolutely necessary, and after consultation with our Safety Advisory Group"
I'm sure temperatures will exceed 40C in the next World Cup, so will those games be played behind closed doors?
This nanny state bollocks is just too much

Can’t see where this silliness is going to end. It’s in the evening. If people want to go let them make that choice. As mentioned somewhere earlier , this sets a line in the sand, what happens if we get another hot burst when the season started.
We’re quickly becoming a country frightened of its own shadow and I can’t see where this is going to end.
Btw the I’m currently watching England women’s cricket match that’s been played since 2 o’clock this afternoon and get this............... there’s even a crowd there watching it.

As opposed to the snowflakes who decided that fully grown adults can’t make the decision themselves if they want to go out tmw in a 33 degree summer evening or not...

Fully grown adults that are spitting their dummies out because a meaningless pre-season friendly is being played behind doors.
Grow up you absolute babies.

No dummies being spat here, I’m not going. But that was my decision not to bother.

No need to staff the event now - correct decision.

No, it’s not your decision. You can’t go. The club have made that call for you.

Pretty sure the extreme heat was one of the major complaints about awarding it to Qatar.

Exactly this.
All the thickos blaming this on Health and Safety Gone Mad seem to have forgotten about the stewards having to rock up in their hi via jackets, the guys and gals working in the kitchens etc.
But the main reason they will have made this decision is the club have assessed it’s not financially worth opening it up for the 200 fans that will show up.

If conditions are so extreme because of the heat then the game should be called off. Surely the players are in far more danger than the spectators?

I think they're also looking after their staff, not worth it for a crappy friendly.

Don’t worry, make some stewards come to work on the hottest day on record cos you want to watch a meaningless game of football

No ones being forced, it’s called freedom of choice. If they don’t have enough staff or stewards the game gets cancelled, but I don’t believe that was the reason was it?

The players are professional athletes in their prime, not a load of angry old fat blokes with a few beers and a burger in their belly. They're also having their heart rate monitored in real time, I would expect.

But seriously, hopefully the sun will have dipped behind the West Stand before kick off because otherwise it will be horrific for the players.

How would you feel if an attending fan died due to the heat?
