Exactly. And it was for a reason…because our defence was actually our weak spot. If we went all out attack we would have been exposed and probably lost to Germany. But we are too negative.

Set them up to not lose and surprised us all by taking it to Italy in the first half (FFS Rice was bombing forward), though worth mentioning we only had one shot in 45 minutes. Either Mancini worked out how to subdue us and/or Southgate decided to sh*thouse the rest of the game but we were awful for the next 75 minutes. Kane, Stirling and Mount went missing and Saka looked like a schoolboy when he came on. Southgate then decided to be the tactical mastermind and bring two penalty takers on two minutes from the end in a Euro Final (again FFS). We were then meant to hail him as a genius as Rashford, Sancho and poor Saka all score their penalties.
Hate that Southgate will be lauded for what he has achieved, which is what will happen.

First decent team we face we lose.
Been the same since 66.
This the future of the next world cup but in the semi's or quarters, a lot of big teams lost to smaller teams this time around.

Expecting subs to come on cold and take penalties in those circumstances was too much.
Oh well, on balance Italy deserved it, and the England team have nothing to be ashamed of.

Why shouldn’t he be lauded for what he has achieved out of interest?
I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe sometimes. No one would have predicted we’d make the final on here.

We lost the game due to inexperience. We had two senior professionals taking the first two cracking penalties and then gave the last three when the pressures really on to three kids. Not well thought out in my opinion. Confidence is great, but experience really counts.

You should be proud of your team. They did really well and held out for so long.
To lose because they chose disco dancers instead of pentakers is heart breaking.

Kane, Sterling and Mount went missing. Is that Southgate’s fault?
Who honestly would have subbed either of Kane and Sterling knowing there was a good chance of going to pens?
Rashford and Sancho were brought on to take penalties as obviously they have shown up in training but why does Rashford go all Pogba and Sancho take one off one step?
Why did Sterling and Grealish not take penalties?
Too easy to criticise the manager when a number of players were not up to standard on the night.
