You know what I mean though. Is this because people are so pro-Starmer or because they are so unimpressed with Johnson? It's definitely both, but I'd argue the latter is the deciding vote. Starmer hasn't said or done enough yet bar gestures to command that as being more about him than Johnson. And I think it's great news.

I suppose there's a few people who'll be swayed by Nigel Farage's 'but that was the wrong kind of Brexit' party and there's some that'll wait til they're hit by tax rises, but if people haven't changed their minds by now its hard to see what will persuade them they made a mistake.

The last 6 months have caused the governments of the four UK nations to emerge and deal with COVID as they have seen fit. Here in Wales the Welsh Govt have had an equally rocky time of it, over care homes, PPE testing and tracing, A level results, GCSE and BTech results. ONly 3.5 million people live here and what was a failing Welsh Govt before March 2020 has not covered itself with any glory. We were told for instance that the exam results would be 'world beating' - totally fair and reflective. Welsh youngsters had a U turn.
The problem for Starmer is that he can make all the noises he likes - as all Opposition parties can and do - but if you want to see how well his policies would be working - look at the Welsh Labour Govt who have proved themselves unable to govern 3.5 million people, let alone 40 million who live in England.

It's a fair point and the Labour Party ain't even close to being what it should be, but those that ARE governing those 40 million have been 'unable to govern'. But still we reward them every election.

To be fair politicsO a government is judged over the term it serves, as this one has started so so they have plenty of time to turn it around and prove that they are a viable government to lead. Of course things could get worse, but time is on their side.

I agree time is on their side. By the time we are at a ballot box there will be some distance between how bad they've been since December and a new vote. That being said I think a government is only really judged 'til now'. So 'til now' I think i'm correct in saying they've proven themselves to be a poor government to serve.

Also sometimes things are just so badly handled or judged (see Iraq War) that you won't be allowed to forget it. Hopefully that is the case here.

I’m not so sure you can use the Iraq war with a direct correlation to this pandemic. Blair’s illegal war lies sent hundreds of thousands of innocent lives to their deaths. He deserved to be held accountable and should have stood trial at The Hague. However, I get what you’re trying to say though.
