That worse than the penalties imposed on Germany at the Treaty of Versailles. So much so that I'm inclined to think it was drafted with the intention that Ukraine will never sign up to it.StillSpike wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:34 pmI honestly can't think why he's bothering. Thought your man Donald was going to end the war in 24 hours?
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/ ... n-one-day/
"The agreement covers the “economic value associated with resources of Ukraine”, including “mineral resources, oil and gas resources, ports, other infrastructure (as agreed)”, leaving it unclear what else might be encompassed. “This agreement shall be governed by New York law, without regard to conflict of laws principles,” it states.
The US will take 50pc of recurring revenues received by Ukraine from extraction of resources, and 50pc of the financial value of “all new licences issued to third parties” for the future monetisation of resources. There will be “a lien on such revenues” in favour of the US. “That clause means ‘pay us first, and then feed your children’,” said one source close to the negotiations.
It states that “for all future licences, the US will have a right of first refusal for the purchase of exportable minerals”. Washington will have sovereign immunity and acquire near total control over most of Ukraine’s commodity and resource economy. The fund “shall have the exclusive right to establish the method, selection criteria, terms, and conditions” of all future licences and projects. And so forth, in this vein. It seems to have been written by private lawyers, not the US departments of state or commerce."

You are jumping the gun nothing has been decided yet. They are only preliminary talks. There cannot be any peace still without Ukraine. Everybody knows that including the Americans.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 6:40 pm RD batting for a man who is selling Europe (which includes the country RD actually lives in and is from) down the river never fails to be baffle me.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Trump has given Putin the green light for his expansionist plans. He’s made WW3 a real possibility. If there is war in Europe - a NATO member war vs Russia - then millions could die just so Trump can pursue his MAGA dream. Trump doesn’t give a flying f*ck about anyone but himself and his pals but mainly himself.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 6:40 pm RD batting for a man who is selling Europe (which includes the country RD actually lives in and is from) down the river never fails to be baffle me.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Trump actually seems to blame Ukraine for the war!
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/ ... udi-arabia
Can't do a cut & paste from this article But this is one small section from it ...
He (Trump) said today "Today I heard 'Oh, we weren't invited. Well, you've been there for 3 years. You should have ended it 3 years ago. You should never have started it. You could have made a deal."

I can just imagine what the "deal" would have been. We (Russia) install a government here and control the country. But you can still call yourself Ukraine if you like ( for now, anyway)

Well, you're backing the guy who's very obviously working against our nation's security and general interests, so it might be boring but if the cap fits...

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
I'd quite like Canada to follow the precedent and see if Trump is willing to apply the same logic if they invaded Michigan, claiming it's always been part of Greater Canada, levelled and depopulated half the state then, in a few years' time, blamed it all on Trump for not Making A Deal. The other alternative being that he'd just immediately give up the state to avoid any loss of life? As he says, there's just no other way.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Putting aside how grotesque it is for Trump to blame Ukraine for being invaded (and sounding like a f*cking tankie in the process), the damage he is doing to America's long term interests is crackers. At minimal cost, they are weakening one of their main strategic rivals. And he's instead detonating his country's most reliable alliances in the process.

Someone’s probably been in his ear and suggested the conflict actually started when the democratically elected Russophile government was overthrown by the CIA backed Orange Revolution and Russia retaliated
His comments also suggest he thinks Zelenskyy is a dictator insosfar as he’s suspended elections indefinitely, banned political opponents and banned certain Orthodox Christian religions from practising.

As is often the case, he's a terrifyingly dangerous idiot, but isn't *entirely* wrong.

Democratically elected? That would be a first where Russia is pulling the stringsCurrywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 9:50 am Someone’s probably been in his ear and suggested the conflict actually started when the democratically elected Russophile government was overthrown by the CIA backed Orange Revolution and Russia retaliated

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
All those years we decried the "lunatic fringe" left for their take on things. That democracy throughout our countries was a sham, that NATO was the real aggressor, that the US needed to stop interfering and mind its own business, that there could be another way....etc etc...
Those lefties must be delighted, as the likes of Trump, Vance etc are all saying very similar things, and are going to do something about it. You guys win.

I still think it's a good idea for the US to mind its own business in places like (checks notes), ahem Ukraine.
Democracy in the West is a sham and its being whittled away even further by our governments on an almost daily basis.
Russia and Nato are both aggressors but that doesn't mean the sovereignty and independence of Ukrainia shouldn't be supported.
Now get back to work before the boss catches you on the Interspazz.
