Labour won by 2%. The vote to leave the EU was more resounding than that.

And how many idiots voted for Labour without realising what they were voting for?

They won by less than 2% at the 2017 GE. It's the winning that counts.

It's incredible that they've actually managed to increase their majority in this seat under the circumstances specific to this contest and to the political arena generally at the current time. Absolutely incredible.

No wonder you won't hear anything about it. I'm just picturing all those articles about the The Change sweeping across the country under Farage now sitting in waste paper baskets up and down media rooms all over the country. Or in London, anyway.

Can hardly be called a resounding win for Labour can it ? In a lower than General election turn out, they polled only 31% of the vote so in actual fact a case of just under 7 in 10 people voting against them !! Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown were among Labour big guns who visited visited the city during the hard-fought campaign. yet they only squeaked home by 683 votes against a political party formed around 6 weeks ago. Tory and Brexit party votes amounted to 50% of the votes, so under our ridiculous first past the post system, a party that in no way represents the Majority of Voters in this City goes through as winners !! Certainly quite funny to see all the ''Chest thumping'' comments on this thread from supporters of the Labour party !!

Just stating the facts, no point living in Cloud Cuckoo land is there !! If there was proportional representation, then both Labour and Conservatives would never get to win any elections. The only truly representative election is the EU one. Other than that its the same old story ''If we vote for the Liberals or Another........we let in the Party we really dislike be it Conservatives or Labour, so people vote to keep another party out rather than voting for whom they really want. The present Labour Party won last night on a 30% approval, rather crazy our system, an MP gets elected when around 7 out of ten dont vote for them, how ridiculous is that !!

What a win for Labour.....magnificent. Just think on this.....Labour won a seat in a leave area!!!!!. With the Brexit Party on a high after the Euro elections, they couldnt do this, even though they were 7to1 ON favs with the bookies.
Labour increased their majority slightly on a smaller turnout. No way the Tories will call a GE this year now.
People realised that theres more to life than Brexit, and voted Labour for other reasons ...austerity, schools NHS etc
Im overjoyed...its wonderful

I'd guess that as slacker has alluded to above, it's more a sign of the work done by labour activists paying off.

31% of the vote is a ''FABULOUS'' win for Jeremy Corbyn's ( Corbyn, a man you dislike so much ) Labour party, oh come on, get real.
Strange indeed that 52 % of the vote in a record turn out is not good enough, so the vote needs to be re-run !!
Double standards indeed and shows how desperate and conniving people of Left wing views are to gain power by what ever means possible !!
Conservative and Labour are both equally incompetent, both desperate to hold power and are in fact allies in wanting to retain the present status quo of being the only two parties ever to govern the UK. Both Labour and Tory are desperate to keep the outdated and unrepresentative voting system that we have at present. Change to a fairer type of voting system, perhaps a proportional representation one like that used in Europe and both parties would be outdated ''Dead Ducks'' !!

We had one in the not too distant past and it was decided to keep the current system. What needs to happen really is a proper debate over the different types of systems that we could utilise to vote on.

It’s almost like a meeting of minds might just be the best way forwards right now, as neither party is good enough on its own to govern.

All it showed is what we know. The country is, and always will be more right wing than left but unless the brexit party and the Tories sort themselves in terms of working together in a general election we could get a hard left Labour Party and Corbyn. A party that says it cares about the environment but wants to embark on a mass housebuilding program. A party that will just continue with mass immigration because it buys them votes, like Peterborough. A party that wants to leave the EU, I think, but hates the U.S. It just wants to make us a Cuba. Floating in the Atlantic in our own private misery. It wants to raise taxes. Increase benefits. Nationalize everything. We would be run by the biggest group of virtue signalling non entities I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. If momentum and the rest of the loonies get into power I am off.

And that's only the half of it. Nevertheless it has an effective, fanatical political machinery and a reliable core vote - increasingly incorporating the muslim community - which can be relied upon to turn out and, more suspiciously, vote by post. This is constantly underestimated. The Brexit Party's intent is to take Labour supporting Leave voters from Labour. May made the same mistake in taking this for granted when calling the last general election, disastrously.

The supporters of Marxism, in its various manifestations, have been successful in infiltrating the whole social fabric of the United Kingdom. It has been a genuinely remarkable revolution. Now a mere questioning of the validity of this imposed ideology, let alone an observation about its hypocrisy, results in an immediate label of heretic (nazi/fascist/"Torwee Scum"). Yet they pontificate piously about the potential economic effect of Brexit whilst advocating Corbyn's economics!

But, as you note, it's correct to remember that this is a minority dictating to a majority while masquerading with the certitude and fervour of the righteous. Their focus is on destruction and when they're drawn on what they want, what they weally weally want, they're usually confused and respond with glib platitudes. But the truly zealous marxist will be honest and then you hear a description of the utter horrors endured by the people of Russia, China, Venezuela, Eastern Europe, Vietnam, Mozambique, Somalia, Ethiopia and many other countries over the last few generations. But, apparently, it will be different here, this time. The murders of hundreds of millions of people (without including those committed by their ideological cousins, the German National Socialists) would suggest these people are simply crazy, made mad by envy, guilt and resentment. And these are the people who run the public services, your councils, your health service, your state broadcaster, your schools, your universities, your civil service, your police (increasingly) and their ideology has even infected the Conservative Party.

We'll be off too. Let us know where you're heading.
